Shouldnt they be protesting in DC, in front of the White House or the Capitol where congress meets?

No flights available
Why would they go to the White House to demand that the university they attend divest from financial investments that profit from genocide?

My thoughts are that the federal government has a bigger impact to the war in Gaza vs. any research agreement that a university has with Israel; so youd be best to go protest against the war.

Yeah college students who have to take out student loans that will financially skullfuck them for decades just to afford a piece of paper that's required to get a job to afford to pay those student loans can totally afford to fly to fucking DC and stay there for an indefinite period of time

They aren't necessarily just protesting the war. The universities receive funding from Israel and the students are protesting that. They want to the universities to cut ties with Israel because of the war.

Surely you knew this. It has only been on the news every day for like a month now.

Protests in front of the White House and congress are a perennial factor of life for DC and doesn't really raise national attention to the issue. The widespread university protests are targeted toward specific decisions made at the local level and have also garnered more media attention than if they had all gone through the expense of traveling to DC.

Universities are run like a business. They won't cut funding as long as students want to attend the school.
Above all things, never be afraid. The enemy who forces you to retreat is himself afraid of you at that very moment.

Honestly, I get most of my news from Reddit front page and Google curated news. On Reddit front page, the ones that went viral showed up:
  1. A protestor at NYU was like I dont even know why were here, asked a fellow other protestor why theyre there, and the fellow protestor had no idea either,
  2. A spokesman for one of the protests wanted food and water provided to the protestors by the university, calling it basic humanitarian aid, and
  3. Videos of the police raids and aftermaths, where protestors made make-shift weapons, defaced their own school with graffiti, etc.

*reposting my response without abuse since apparently someone cried to mommy*

vs what is happening to them now, which is suspension, expulsion, eviction from school housing, and/or revocation of student visa? Protesting in DC would mean no impact on their school status (except delayed graduation). Get real.

That actually makes sense, and good point. Hadnt thought this. Unless it goes crazy, like the bunch of MAGAs raiding the Capitol, it probably wouldnt have garnered media news.

No wonder you don't know what's going on. The main reddit news subs r/News and r/WorldNews are super pro-Israel. The mods there block everything that makes Israel look bad. The whistleblower story that just happened wasn't even posted there, for example.

I used to frequent their live threads until I finally noticed how super, unconditionally pro-Israel they were.
The approach mirrors that of anti-apartheid protesters in the 80s, who sought to pressure their universities into divesting from South Africa.

Because genocide is happening before their eyes, and they want it to stop.

No, but it might do something about said campus's ties to Israel, which is what they're actually protesting.

Other way around; universities have massive financial investments through their endowment funds.

they should be protesting outside the Israeli embassy and the white house
There's a big continuous protest outside the Israeli embassy. They have lots of signs and flags and are requesting that drivers honk to show support. Oh, and that one guy lit himself on fire.

That was a different guy setting himself on fire.

Trump trial guy was just psychotic. The Israeli embassy guy was a protestor.

because college students don't have the money to fly out to DC en masse, and even if they did then all the flights would get booked

and also because the federal government encompasses more than the white house's front lawn
