More bullshit meant to hype the tech up and have more potential investors throwing money at the company. The first video is awkward as fuck and the speech doesn't even come off as natural.
Thanks for reading!

This take is like looking at the Wright Brothers plane and calling it a piece of shit because it couldn't even fly over the Atlantic. New technology has to begin somewhere. Give it another 10 years and I guarantee you that casual communication between AI and humans will be indistinguishable.

Sure, but IMO as long as AIs rely on predictive text it's still a glorified party trick. Sure it can do a lot of things and sometimes it can give fascinating answers and it can definitively help with a lot of repetitive tasks, but until an AI is actually capable of knowing and understand what it's saying I don't think it's going to be the new industrial revolution that some people are banking on

What I don't like though is that artists are already struggling and AI generative art makes it even worse for them

I totally agree with you. Its a shiny toy but people are acting like its the solution to everything.

Like Im getting kinda tired of apps that dont even need AI suddenly have it just because its a buzzword.

Its FOMO for companies.

This is only one paper

nevermind the fact that most inventions that stick around simply keep getting better

you reach a ceiling with a car because its function can only take it as much as it can with materials and laws that govern travel

AI is different though, it hopes to encapsulate everything with the bare minimum being communication

I mean, sure.. take your pick.. but its only a matter of time honestly

I dont like it one bit, but hey, people like it I guess

What AI "hopes" to do, and the way it actually functions now aren't the same thing at all. You can't just keep refining a technology to do something completely different from what it currently does. That'd be a new technology.

I'm not going to pretend to fully understand how it all works, but it seems this research is solely based on a model that relies on an ever-expanding database of words/images. If the advancements from this method really do plateau, I'm wondering if any entirely different approach might come to light. It's just hard to believe that we've reached the peak of technological innovation after having just invented the light bulb just a little over a century ago.

The technology shows a lot of promise but the example in the first video is underwhelming. It very much comes off like AI awkwardly trying to sound like someone having a casual conversation. Like the audio equivalent of the uncanny valley effect.

What about the real world? What's stopping us from incorporating data-collecting machines that exist alongside of us? Machines who learn and adapt to our world through trial and error, in much the same way a toddler would. Think of it as the difference between being locked inside an empty room with nothing but access to Wikipedia, versus actually experiencing the world first hand. Call me a science fiction writer, but I'm a staunch believer that advancements in AI have a long way to go.

These videos almost always turn out to be prescripted and by grifters.

you have to learn the timing of the script to make sure it seems like it is reacting properly when you show it to investors

What's stopping us?

We have no idea how to build it, at all.

I was saying that LLMs will not get exponentially better. I think in 40 years it'll be somewhat better but still stupid and halluncinatory.

there have been so many of these things that have been proven to be scripted. They do this to get boomer investors to give them money.
