This game kinda gave me dark cloud vibes when I saw this trailer. Supposedly its coming out this year.

Such a vibe. 2 is good but it's not the first game.
This is a cool sig
I remember as a kid taking forever to complete the first dungeon and thought it was the whole game. Blew my damn mind when the game kept going after beating it lol
The Legend is True!
I remember getting stuck in the first town because the dungeon boss kept flying and I neglected the slingshot chick lol
Definitely not a hornypost
I only ever played the 2nd one, but I really liked it. Very chill

It's the number one game that needs a remaster IMO. Just update the graphics and controls to be smoother and it'd be the perfect game.

I like the second game a whole lot better, but part 1 still had those cool vibes that I missed.

Loved the music for the forest dungeon and the sunken ship dungeon.

(I have so many memories of like early 20s me spending a lot of 2 to 4 am runs going through this dungeon. Good memories).

Actually the 3rd area is my favorite in general. The game peaked here with it's story for me, lol.

Or heck, make a Dark Cloud 3.

Can you imagine how much better even a half-baked (but not bad) attempt at randomly generated dungeons would be now?

I kinda sucks that you kinda have to grind all six characters' skills, at least somewhat. Eventually though I would just stick to Toan and Ruby, and whenever the game forced me to play as one of the others that can't handle tough enemies, I usually stocked up on bombs and rushed through that floor.

Otherwise, wonderful game. Collecting Atla and placing their contents always felt really satisfying, especially as more mini bonus chests appeared throughout the towns the more you completed them.

I never finished that final tower dungeon though. A hundred floors filled with super tough enemies, without Atla, and when you're done you get a sword you're probably barely gonna use at that point anyway? Yeah no thanks, ain't nobody got time for that.

Thirst meters and weapon durability can die in a fire. So easy to permanently lose a weapon youd spent so much time and resources on.
Now I want a Dark Cloud 1/2 remaster.

I think you need to make the procedural generation a bit more sophisticated as well, or at least make the dungeon crawling a bit more streamlined.

I haven't played the game in a long time... But the procedurally generated stuff is just like where the back rooms are and what restrictions might be on the floors right? And the enemies. I don't see what's wrong with that approach, though again I haven't played it in a hot minute

Edit: also I like the thirst meter, and the durability was well done in this game because it's not too hard to repair.

As a kid I loved Dark Cloud 2, so I went and got Dark Cloud 1 and uh...definitely wasn't a fan. I know I didn't do it any favors by going in reverse order but man...what a different game. It just felt so lifeless and bland after spending my time in such a dope place like Palm Brinks. I also was pretty turned off by the thirst meter.

It"s also the extremely rudimentary dungeon layouts. There is very, very little variety beyond finding a key that opens a locked door or switching to another party member to do something only they can do. There appears to be almost no balancing, either; some rooms have nothing, and some have 7 enemies that all target you at once.

I think the music and the story slapped a lot harder in DC1 but DC2 had so much more to do that only felt like a chore if you tried to do literally everything with the exception of monster transformation leveling. Spheda could either be Eh this isnt too bad or FUCK THIS LEVEL, FUCK THE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA AND IF THEY HAVE A FAVORITE VEGETABLE THEN FUCK THAT TOO!

I love DC1 and beat it like 3 times but I could never get into the sequel. It basically felt like a different series. Granted I never played it for more than an hour or so. Idk if it's worth it to find out

It overwhelmingly received a lot of criticism on the PS3 board but I LOVED it. I put 1,350 hours into that game in the first 7 months. Did everything possible. Got platinum trophy and still played for hundreds of hours for fun and just helping people.

I made 5 of the best swords for my characters so I always had all 4 elements of fire, ice, wind, earth and one non elemental sword just for magic enemies. I highly enjoyed the Georama aspect it that was definitely influenced from Dark Cloud series. I enjoyed decorating my little georama and filling it with townspeople and then farming items after quests.

Such a good game. Ive always been a Level-5 fan and feel that game was really good honestly. Fun single player story mode and an awesome online. Enjoyed the quests, the gameplay, the art style, the saturated bright color palette. Just an all over great game to me. Will always be one of my favorites on PS3.

Did Dark Cloud 2 have a minigolf minigame? I remember finding it super chill building towns etc but from memory the gameplay got a little repetitive.

I never got a chance to play DC1.

Yeah you pretty much described DC2 in a nutshell. Cozy ass game with a lot of cool mechanics like building towns and your own robot, but goddamn when you get to your 5th 20 floor dungeon where all the rooms look the same it gets a lil old. The weapon and robot upgrade system do keep it kind of fresh. Monica's monster mechanic would too if it wasn't just useless trash.
Both games always end for me when I get to a sealed floor that is extremely annoying to get through.

In the first game, it was sealed floors forcing you to use Ungaga and he was absolutely terrible. If you didn't get lucky with a weapon drop, you're forced to use his default weapon which does little damage. I would stock up on damaging items but run out because the very last enemy always seemed to have the floor key. I quit there and never came back.

In the second game, there were sealed floors forcing to you to use Monica against giant robot enemies and hard shelled monster, types of enemies Monica cannot fight at all. Again, forcing you to stock up on damaging items and lose it when you run out and don't have the floor key. Years later I learned you can buy an item to remove the seal on a dungeon floor. It's very expensive but it let me beat the game.

To be fair, it's just one floor in the entire game that does this. It's the 4th dungeon or the one where you explore undersea caverns.
It's possible you could have brute forced using magic if you bothered to level up armbands but I didn't since I entirely relied on Max for ranged damage.
