The Endless Shrimp promotion has been incredibly successful...too successful in fact, that it cost the company millions. In a move to recoup losses, Red Lobster is closing close to 50 locations across the nation.

They didn't learn from Popeyes and the chicken sandwich.

Or from themselves, they've done this before lol
Sack to crack, going to town
Endless Shrimp has been a standard promotion of theirs. How were they to know this time it would doom them.

Well, the problem was making it permanent.

I read a very unhinged theory as to why this happened and why it won't be publicized

because people used to go to red lobster for...lobster.

these days most people going to a red lobster just want to get the cheapest seafood possible, and obviously all you can eat shrimp is the best deal.

Is it because of the TikTok "eat as much shrimp as you can" challenge?

Arguably the greatest service I've ever had in a restaurant was years ago during endless shrimp at Red Lobster. The waitress was bringing them out faster than I could eat them. I was shocked because normally it feels like they're deliberately rate limiting me, probably to avoid the issues in the OP.

I thought Long John Silver was for the people who wanted seafood as cheap as possible and Red Lobster was for the Olive Garden crowd that's never been to an actual seafood restaurant and thinks that it's fine dining.

yeah but Long John Silver doesn't do endless shrimp. or endless anything, afaik

and there's only one LJS location in my entire state, so that's probably part of it

Apparently it's pretty common in the chain restaurant industry for nationally imposed deals like this to be loss leaders and bad news for individual franchises in higher cost areas. A lot of Subways went under because of $5 footlongs
Please don't be weird in my topics
That's why these things should be specials and not regular items

It's no longer becoming a cheap alternative either. Combos (not the platters) are approaching $10+ over here.

I used to go for crab legs and the price of crab legs has become obscenely high in recent years. Sad, was my like one birthday tradition.
