Why are so many "adult" animated shows ugly as fucking sin?

People keep referencing budget. But there's plenty of shows with lazy cheap animation without having ugly art styles. And shows with ugly art and decent animation. I don't think the quality of the animation is necessarily the issue. Most adult cartoons look ugly regardless of animation quality.

theres a stigma against good looking animation in america. its seen as for kids, or seen as foreign

I have has this same issue. And I think I know what it is. Ppl don't want others to make porn out of it. So if they are ugly that won't be an issue. Like Erin Esurance

Have you seen how the characters walk in season one?

I mean, there is a lot of well-animated and well-drawn anime "targeted toward" adults (Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Samurai Champloo, Space Dandy, One-Punch Man, etc. These are all labeled as "Seinen").

Most American cartoons targeted towards adults are comedies (South Park, Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Rick & Morty, etc), so there's less of a need to make them look good. As long as they're considered funny, they'll be successful.
