They literally had raids in abandoned lots far away from anywhere a summer or two ago.

I have a strong feeling most of you would be less understanding if some random person pitched a tent in your front yard and started using the lawn as his toilet, much less 20 random people.

Letting the homeless turn sections of your city into shanty towns and open air drug markets under the guise of compassion is a bullshit non solution to the homelessness problem.

No, but pointing out another shit solution doesnt make the first any more viable either. These people need help. Most of the people who are suffering chronic homelessness are drug addicts, mentally unstable, or both. Letting them kill themselves out in the open for everyone to see isnt compassion, its a god damn tragedy on full display to the world.

Never said I have one. At least not any that doesnt require me being a dictator with absolute power. But Californias thrown billions at the problem only for it to get worse and worse.

Id like to think theres a lot of middle ground between treating them like trash that needs to be swept away and a community ruining nuisance we all just have to pretend doesnt exist, but maybe not.

These people need a path back into society, not to be passed off as someone elses problem or left to wallow in their misery.

Throwing out their belongings is inexcusable and disgusting, but something really does need to be done about these makeshift homeless encampments. Theyre beyond dangerous and cause all sorts of issues in their communities.

I hate this garbage so much. These are human beings, suffering the consequences of a country that failed them, and continues to fail them every day. 15.1 million vacant homes in 2022, god only knows what that number would look like today. There's no reason for any of this. But people can't afford rent, can't get homes. This is all so fucked.

Force developers to develop affordable housing instead of large "luxury" shit. Aggresively punish excess rent/rent increases and confiscate unused homes/ more often. Transition to more walkable/better public transit cities so less parking lots=more land for homes or other things. Repeal excessively restrictive zoning laws. Shift total property tax burden away from normal homeowners to golf courses, mansions, stadiums, etc.

Wage theft and late pay needs to be punished vastly harsher and with interest and full responsibility for any hardship incurred as a result. Deliberate wage theft at a corporate level should be life in prison no parole as a mamdatory mimimum(which should be eliminated in most other cases but against the powerful that shit is beautiful)

Healthcare reform....just fucking burn it down and completly redo it.

Destroy private equity firms. Fucking scumsucking subhuman garbage.

The encampments are a symptom and they or something similar will occur a lot until the disease is treated.

Etc.

Targeting the homeless instead of the systems that create them is literally spending money to make the problem worse. Not just by doing jack shit but also by diverting funds from public infastructure or other things that keep the economy going or actual help the homeless, or those at risk.

Car/RV homeless or street homeless? Because there really is a big difference (Much weaker social stigma attached to the former, as they tend to be far less dysfunctional.)

I doubt that. I've had to deal with that not only where I live currently, but also the place I lived at before. Homeless people think they are entitled to break in and set up camp wherever they want. And no matter what steps the property management does, to either prevent it and fix up the repairs they caused, it doesn't stop them. They want to do that in the streets or fields, that's one thing. But when you're doing this to an apartment complex, that's a serious problem. And yet, the only response to that is, "what's your solution". Does anyone ever get to thinking that maybe, it's not just a "what's your solution" type thing? That maybe, just maybe, homeless people don't have the slightest bit of respect towards the rest of us, just because they're homeless?

I fully agree that homeless people need help, and hope they get the help they need, whether it's in the form of government handouts or whatever, they do need to get off the street. But to be so dismissive about them, saying "it's okay, they're homeless, let the squat on your private property", that's just disgusting. All you dismissive people, let them squat where you live, and maybe you'll understand.

it's more of the help is there. not enough spaces for everyone to get in housing within a reasonable amount of time.

have to get ahold of worker if the complex tries to court evict me since i got a promise that i wouldn't have that happen at least for a year (it's a rollercoaster of problems). one problem gets resolved, another one pops up.
