I mean, it is kinda tricky to answer whether it should be considered one country or two (Gaza and West Bank seperate) in practice , but beyond that, the answer is objectively yes regardless of what Israel shills say.

I really don't understand much about the Israel/Palestine situation, is it ultimately due to a long religious conflict?

I probably took it to be a country, since it's usually referred to by name. Never really gave it much thought prior to this current conflict.

It's very questionable whether Israeli authorities are genuinely religious or just using that as an excuse to wage genocide against people whose land they want to colonize. Their actions are certianly not consistent with the values of the religion they claim to represent.
