For every awful 4kids decision there was some BANGERS.https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/f/fc207e44.jpg

No one will EVER convince me that this didn't help OP do numbers.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/f/fc207e44.jpgYeah...4Kids's horrible dub that cut out whole arcs of all things is the reason One Piece took as long as it did to catch on in the West. They deserve no credit for helping that series in anyway.

Ok so how did Joey v Marik work?In the original they actually make it a point for Marik to say that he got pushed to the limit as well. Like he came out of the duel almost on the point of collapse, throwing up and all
from my memory their bodies were disintegrating into the Shadow Realm and Joey lost because he couldnt maintain his strength to play the last card and win?
so how did that actually play out? Joey passed out from really good card draw?

Of course, endless filler arcs are right around the corner if I recall. As a kid, I remember completely falling off the show when they abruptly interrupted the climax of the Battle City arc with Marik to fuck around in VR with Kaiba's shitty step-brother.

In fact, I think I watched most of that arc, then never kept on to actually see the climax. I seem to remember Kaiba almost literally saying, "Well, we're going to forget that happened and never bring it up again."

I stopped at the same point too lmaoFor a lot of young anime viewers, this was our first experience with a momentum-annihilating filler arc. We didn't even know what that was, at the time, so we just thought the show randomly decided to be lame for a while.
meanwhile the whole time you're doing the VR stuff, Marik is on the airship just chillingI think he wandered around ominously saying that this was small very interesting but then never actually did anything because it was filler lol.
At least Garlic Jr.'s arc in DBZ was only like 9 episodes long and took place after Namek was resolved.
I am 39 years old, and today I learned they actually died, and 4kids just DBZ another dimension'd it.https://youtu.be/KLdkUaCt12E?si=C20uhm8M8CbijilY

I will say that I did really like the idea of the deck master mechanic or whatever it was they called it. Basically picking a monster to be on the field permanently, but it can't attack and each one has a different effect. Essentially Hearthstone's heroes, now that I think about it.
And it was also cool to have more characters involved. Like Tristan, Serenity, and Tea all had to duel at certain points, it wasn't just Kaiba, Yugi, and Joey.

To quote LK, "I can be as hardcore as I want and it'll still be PG-13."One thing the animators/writers loved about Scarface in Batman TAS is that because he was a puppet, they could kill him in increasingly gruesome ways without having to censor it
