seriously starting to hate dating apps more than before....

POF is now charging for 1st messages.... Yes, I should get out more and get involved in things I like, but right now online dating is the only option with my weird schedule. But after I think 2 messages sent out, POF now wants to charge 10 bucks to send out up to 5 messages, many of them might not even get seen.

I get that they have to make money to keep the site up, but my god, its like every other dating app today. At least give me a few messages before I have to pay.

I know I'm old but whatever happened to walking up to someone and asking for their number.

I hear people are abandoning dating apps so they gotta squeeze the people left. Also its not like they dont bombard you with ads in a lot of these.

#metoo scared some people from coming off as creepy. And its just the way this gen is growing up.

Let me explain...creepy people will keep at it, while the more conscious men will be now even more conscious and not even try.

As someone who hasn't gone on a "first date" in literally 27 years, from everything I read, dating in the "app" era sounds miserable

I'm 38, and I used to do that, until every 17 year old started looking like they were in their mid 20s. Nowadays, I really don't feel comfortable asking out a random woman at a store.

And if I'm being honest, I've asked out a few women during my 20s because I thought they were hitting on me. Nope, turns out they just wanted the attention because their man at home wasn't giving it to them. I had one connection with someone I worked with while I was working retail, and she said to me one day "I wish I had someone to give me chocolates on valentines day". I didn't say anything. Next day, boom, walking around the store with her boyfriend.

This is why I don't feel comfortable asking out random women.

It's not the sketchiest. I mean OkCupid still exists, and they are even worse than POF. Okcupid won't even show you a selection of women anymore. You might see 10 women total and then it will just block you from seeing anyone unless you sign up. Course they are a subsidiary of POF now.

I'm on POF because I'm on every dating app in my area. It kills time and I might make a connection with someone. Or not. But you never know.

lately i've had more success with Bumble and Hinge than the others

Pretty much. Sad too, from a visual standpoint I enjoyed their dating interface. You get a sense of who someone is through their question system.

Im only half-joking. But its like when you see nothing but women complaining about men hitting on them and shit it is awfully dissuading. And Im not totally unaware of how I look. Girls dont like me-lookin dudes bothering them

I've sent off messages on that as well. No luck. Honestly its getting to the point where I'm debating just not dating at all and waiting until I apply for new jobs next year and move out of my area. Freshen up the pool.

Dating apps are all terrible. But as a shy introvert there is no other way for me to meet people.

It still kinda works. Things have changed though and people say no less. Instead, you get fake numbers, ghosted, etc.
Some lady told me "i am old enough to be your aunt". Oddly specific...I'm in my 30s but most people think I'm barely 21. That doesn't help.
