Behold, the party of "free speech".

Fifty Alabama lawmakers want to throw Alabama librarians in jail for daring to shelve books that challenge their worldviews, said Read Freely Alabama leadership in a statement Tuesday. Ripped straight out of the Project 2025 playbook , HB4 will criminalize librarians for vaguely-defined obscene literature that targets LGBTQ and racial justice content.

The Reporter didn't include a direct link to the bill. Or I missed it.

Every last one on the bill is a Republican. There was on name, "Wood (D)," that I thought might be a defector, but I think it refers to Debbie Wood. But it turns out that there were zero surprises here, after all. (Double-checked against https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/house-leaders-members?tab=1 )

They are the party of banning book and banning trans people. Feels like 1933 all over again.

Like I said, though, zero surprise.

That seems to be the GOP's intent.

But remember it's not the Republicans who've slid right, it's those dang Democrats that've become insane leftists!

A semi-regular reminder that Reagan would be too far left these days to be allowed into the Republican party.

What about the 1st amendment
Presidential immunity or something. I dunno, they're clearly not even trying to make sense anymore

Hell, Jesus himself could come back today and they'd send him death threats and call him a "commie socialist" for doing exactly what the Bible describes.

Christofascists have never read the Bible so they wouldn't even know what it describes

Alabama wants to continue to be at the bottom in statistics involving education. But to them, who needs education when you have college football?
Asocial, not introverted. Know the difference.
Maybe those JRPGs villains were on to something about humanity being trash.
One of the reasons I decided to leave the library I was employed at. Not this specific bill, but the general idea that's becoming more prevalent that other viewpoints should be silenced. Hell, a few weeks after I left our director was ran over in the parking lot by a crazy patron who had a problem with the material in our collection.

People would wait in the parking lot and follow us after we left. Just didn't want to continue to work in a field where I thought something could happen to my family or myself.
RIP BigAirDay aka Bill.

Even though this inevitably means that, among other things, there will no longer be any colleges for them to parasitically attach football teams to.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

They can't wait to start burning down libraries like they did in 1930's Germany
Who knew that one Pink Floyd song would be Alabama's state anthem?
