training video before we go camping. These people really do not want any more lawsuits. At the same time its sad that we need this stuff. Also makes you feel a bit weird, cause youre seen a s potential predator by most parents until you're properly "vetted".

YPT? I actually just talked to a den leader yesterday about possibly helping out.

Yep. Pretty damn long. Since we're going camping on October, leaders said everybody over 18 must have completed it before going. This saturday we're going to clean beaches so thats cool.

The sexual abuse has always been there, it's just that now leadership is doing something about it.

Right and since theres so much more awareness now, it feels like everybody is a bit sus of each other. At least until you them well, although thats the thing, an abuser will never be obvious most of the time so how much can you really trust? Important thing is that every parent is aware and no kid is left alone with an adult figure.

Wow, all this time people just didn't know doing bad stuff was bad.

Didn't see that one coming.

I got the impression it's more about knowing the signs, so those who are doing bad stuff will be noticed by the good people more easily?
And they say that a Trumble will save us...
Good luck with scouting. I always wanted to try it, but wasn't allowed. Kudos for letting your kid give it a shot.

I see your point, but this is better than the alternative.
He who strikes with meaning is killed by meaning.

Probably something about not creating, allowing or participating in situations where abuse can occur, also. That's a really difficult thing for some people.

I had to do something similar when I volunteered at a camping event as well. It's corny with a lot of common sense "no shit that's wrong" stuff in it, but it's absolutely necessary because we literally had a person in our thing go "you know, some women do like it when you talk dirty to them. How are we suppose to know when they like it or don't?" I wanted to yell at him, but luckily they just kicked him out of the camping event all together lol.

It's also true that the Scouts indemnify themselves somewhat by requiring this training. But as someone else pointed out, it is much, much better than nothing at all.

There's almost always someone so completely clueless that you just want to lose your mind sometimes.
