As with my previous topic, a potential employer contacted me and wanted me to send them my WhatsApp number. After going through the setup, I figured maybe the app might give me a unique number to protect my personal data, but no.

It's literally just my phone number. I am actually confused as to why anyone even needs this service. Especially in North America.

my cell plan doesn't include calls in the base cost, so something like whatsapp which goes through internet (and so I can use it with data or even better, on wifi) is nice. It also makes it simpler, imo, to do group chats. And it has a PC client that I find a lot better than trying to interact with the phone service through my computer. I don't even know how I'd send someone a text from my pc but a whatsapp message is simple

ok, that makes sense to me.
I don't use any of that stuff and admittedly know little about it but all I know in my limited experience is a bunch of people that want to scam you always want to move away from other services and get you on to whatsapp. I have no idea why but there must be a reason.

Now that I think about it, my resume has my phone number on it. Knowing that, they could have just reached out to me through that instead of Indeeds messaging system.
WhatsApp uses data allotment instead of text allotments (don't even know if that's still a thing in 2024), supports group chats more readily than standard the standard messaging app on most Android devices, and the messages are encrypted for additional security.

Realistically though Signal is the superior app.

Its basically a free alternative for people who don't have unlimited and international texting and calling.

If you have friends or loved ones overseas, its a good way to stay in touch.
If you want something done right, do it yourself.
So note to self: Do more myself.
Speaking with people outside the US without needing an international call plan or calling card.
