been a few months since i played it

Base game is finished and today i cleared most of Jaws of Hakkon.

Everything in the Frostback Basin seems needlessly tanky and powerful. In the base game, my main templar combo one-shot most enemies, other than Brutes or bosses (stun immunity makes the combo do nothing). In the DLC i'm lucky if i deal even a quarter of their health.

I blame the spirits.

I'll finish out Jaws of Hakkon today, and do The Descent tomorrow. Trespasser's gonna be a whole thing probably.

How do you avoid the Hinterlands trap?
Every time I try to power through a full playthrough I get caught there and just burn out.

i'm insane and i clear as much of the Hinterlands as i possibly can, and then I take a month long break from the game and then go back to it recharged.

YMMV of course

Stay long enough to unlock mounts and deal with the business at the Crossroads with Mother Giselle.

Everything else can wait until you need to come back for Best Boy Dorian .

And yeah, Hakkon is rough.

I was rolling with an absolutely broken Knight Enchanter MC, even he was getting slowed down. And this guy solos dragons.

my warrior struggles with dragons cuz they're immune to most of my active kit. When i fight dragons i switch to Seras/Varric depending on who i've got in my party. I think I like Seras' kit a bit more even tho i despise her. Just a bunch of time to spam abilities for free is better than throwing traps everywhere.

i'm sad i have to use Vivianne as a mage now because my other mage decided to eff off somewhere.

Party Setup:

Warrior - Me (Human Templar Warrior, 2H spec)
Rogue - Seras/Varric (Archery, Poison, unique class)
Mage 1 - Dorian (Fire, Spirit, and Necromancy trees)
Mage 2 - Vivienne (Lightning, Spirit, and Knight Enchanter)

Vivienne is less useful than the last mage I was using and her personality SUCKS

Viv is the fucking worst.

And KE really benefits from human control. It's all around using the Blade properly, the computer can't figure it out. Pop an Elemental Barrage, drop the fire mines (the three right in front of you is best), slap a Blade into the survivors, teleport away.

I played 2H Reaver on my most recent playthrough that I did in preparation for Veilguard... it's honestly kinda funny tearing things apart with a single button, and then healing every bit of hp you lost doing so

I really do need to try Templar if I play Inquisition for a 3rd time down the road

By the by, have you been using your abilities on Rifts?

It's been a while so I forgot the names, but the Dispel Magic ability for Templars and Mages can be cast on the spots where the Rift is summoning dudes for Round 2.

You can usually clear about three people that way, the summoning spots fizzle out.

Took me an embarrassingly long time to learn that.

Unfortunately it's usually on cooldown but I do try to at least use the mage to dispel

It's always satisfying when you pick the right one and ruin, like, a Pride demon's big day.

Also be sure to massacre the snofleurs.

Those poor bastards, so slow and yet dropping such great leather.

It was one of the first PS4 games I played. I got about 75% of the way through and just gave up on it. So little of it was actually fun or interesting.

I love Origins and generally liked 2 despite some serious problems. No plans to play this mess though.

Most fun for sure, though Champion is probably better. Ive yet to play to Champion (and probably never will since I have a harder time bringing myself to replay it than I do with either of the other 2 DA games)., but Im judging that based on how Blackwell almost never dies once hes got his build going.

Worst in combat for sure. Reaver is a very strong specialization, but the AI sucks at using it so its usually better to just ignore his Reaver tree (or only go up to an upgraded Devour while disabling him from using the 1st skill).

His personality is certainly better than Vivienne though.
i've never played Reaver and Champion was so long ago i don't remember anything about it.

my other character i beat the base game with ages ago (never touched the dlcs as didn't have them at the time) was an Assassin Archer that could put out some nutty numbers

i wish you could respec in these games without mods. just so you could try a different build.

Oh I love Bull as a character

I just remember him dying every time I brought him along. Especially if I fought a dragon (which sucks because he LOVES fighting dragons)

The game is pretty easy and Bull was the only party member I found repeatedly died

i can't afford it for a while but i'll probably pick it up in the summer sale.

so i was wrong, you can "respec" as in you can refund all your ability points, but you can't change what specialization you pick.

despite her Tarot Card character image, Sera works WAY better as a dagger rogue. I subbed in Varric for Vivienne because I can't be assed to redo all her ability points. And I dislike her anyways.

oh cool, bug in trespasser.

successfully do puzzle, success noises and everything. loot chest won't open. after i spent so long trying to do the puzzle too

eff the Shattered Library.

also, i switched to using Blackwall as my tank and i'm having more fun now that i don't have to manage aggro. i just spam my party buffs and my templar abilities now.

That's absolutely a weakness of the game design.

Like they wanted to "speed up" the gameplay by removing the radial menu, then they give you the option to use that Madden-ass tactical mode regardless.

i never found 2 bottles for the bottles collection. and was missing 3 songs. and several codex entries.

overall had a good time, especially once i stopped taking aggro moves and just started hitting everything.

I do need to finish the game on Nightmare or whatever the difficulty achievement is, and some of the Trial of the ___ achievements, but those seem annoying.

Did 2H Reaver a few months ago, and was just sad that I never really got a better weapon. Found the prismatic axe early and fell in love with it. Every now and then I could craft a slightly stronger version but since you can't put hilts or anything on it, nothing really changed in the long run.
The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
