Why does everyone say this? Aren't we all visual learners? Like what else is the point of eyes if not to see
@ me
Not really. I'm not a particularly visual learner. I learn more by being given a problem and needing to find the solution.

Everyone learns best by apprenticeship
Its only loosely related, and maybe not answer to your question, but I realised recently I'm very visually stimulated in the bedroom. If the girl wants the lights off, well I'm gonna be far less into the whole thing lol.

So maybe there's also other ways to learn other than visually.
Started from the bottom now we here
Personally, I learn best blindfolded
Hey, everyone, what's going on in this topic? Oh.
I guess people who are born blind don't count, eh?

Danger and urgency work best for me. I figured out how to swim very well, because a shark was 15 feet from me.

So naturally, you crammed for all your exams by giving someone the text book to quiz you and locking yourself in a death trap that gets worse every time you get one wrong.

We aren't.

Visual learners typically learn best by watching, then practical/hands-on people learn by doing.

Some people work best with verbal instruction, some by writing them down.

It's not that people are literally incapable of learning from methods that don't match their style, it's that different methods work better for different people, which is why mixed-method methodologies work better for teaching.

Its based on the theory of the three learning styles

Visual
Audio
Kinesthetic (doing)

They usually say im a visual learner when they are forced to read books and theyd rather watch someone do the thing they are learning.

None of this is proven, though.

Some people learn better through visual cues, some through auditory ones and some through kinaesthetic experiences.

However, while most learners have a preference, the idea of being strictly one or the other was debunked years ago. A mixture of approaches will yield the best results.
No. I can't learn by reading or watching; I need to be doing something to learn it.

Yeah, we can have varying levels of retention from different types of information, but we are all capable of learning from those types of information-- that's my understanding, at least.

I'm a hands on learner. I have to see it and do it myself to know how to do it.
Don't like it? Don't watch it. It's that simple

Same with "I'm just a bad test taker." Nah, fam either you're dumb or the test was poorly made or you need to get screened for a disorder.

Kids are wise to this shit now.

Classrooms are full of 'visual learners' who would rather you just show them.

Plenty of people are affected by the pressure they feel about the significance of a test, without it necessarily being a disorder.

Test anxiety is a real thing and some people are hugely affected by it. However, many people who are apprehensive about an upcoming test feel that way because they know they havent prepared adequately. It can be hard to separate the two accurately sometimes.
I'm someone who learns by doing, rather than reading.

I wasn't the best student in school because everything was textbook-based - which didn't suit me at all.

When I started my apprenticeship, after some basic learning I was told "here are 12 projects, you have 12 months. Off you go. We're here to help"

I thrived. Could learn at my own pace, make my own discoveries and fuckups (e.g. I was great with a turret mill, I was shit with a centre lathe), and I could wang in 4-12 hours a day depending on how I felt.

Unsurprisingly I carried on with my apprenticeship and got a job in the company. I've been here for over 17 years - I'm 34.
No, I'm not that one.

The three learning styles is BS, but if you don't think there's a lot of fundamental, systemic problems baked into standardized testing, you haven't been paying attention.
