A black dude invades a woman's home. Hostage situation. Woman gets man to open up. He ultimately surrenders to police. Supposedly based on a true story.

Semi older movie? I saw it I think maybe 10-15 years ago

I just copy and pasted your post into google with the word movie in it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captive_(2015_film)

Is this it?
I have had this sig. since October 29th, 2004
Could it be Diary of a Hitman?

A veteran hit man, Dekker (Forest Whitaker) is ready to call it quits and leave the profession. Dekker's final job, however, proves to be trickier than expected when the sadistic Zidzyck (Lewis Smith) recruits the assassin to kill his wife, Jain (Sherilyn Fenn), along with the couple's baby. While Dekker has a change of heart and resolves not to shoot Jain and her child, his decision places all their lives in danger, since Zidzyck has dispatched another killer to perform the task.

Shot in the dark for a movie I'm only vaguely familiar with, but Black Snake Moan.

Surprisingly close, but not it. I'm scouring the internet right now.

Negative. This movie came out later than that. I want to say early 2000s. I remember watching it on TV as a kid. Came out maybe before 2010

Was the acting bad? It could have been a lifetime movie which would make it harder to find.

yeah

EDIT: Or I should say I THINK it was. I remember the black dude having small dreads (in a low-neck-ponytail (idk what this is called) down to maybe just past his neck), but that memory may be incorrect. It said at the end something like "based on a true story. They are still friends to this day".

I was a kid at the time. Maybe 7-8 years old I think. It was just on tv. The acting I remember being good, but it might not have been. Either way, I was hooked. Mom was sleeping (night shift). Dad was at work.

I give the other info as to why my 7-8 year old ass was watching a pg-13 movie alone. idk I'm weird.

Doesn't appear to be it as that's a series

I used to love that show. I had loads of the books, too.

The Gruffle scared me as a kid, though.

Is there more than one movie called Law Abiding Citizen? The one I'm thinking of, (Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx), doesn't in any way whatsoever resemble the movie that is described in the OP. What am I missing?

Honestly, the 2015 Captive movie about Brian Nichols is so damn close to the one I'm thinking of. It does not appear to be it based on what I keep reading about it but it's the closest thing.

I'm so confused. I literally just watched it a week ago, nothing in LAC resembles the movie you described.

In my defense, TC said he was 7-8 when he watched it, and then said it would have been in the early 2000s. And is now saying he's 36.
The math ain't mathing, which is why I went with a longshot of TC confusing details.
