I'll be taking a trip that way through work, some time this spring/summer. I've never been, and while "best of" lists are all well and good, I'd appreciate tips for good food and activities from folks familiar with the region. We ate at "Fritz European Fry House" to try poutine and it was the GOAT.
go for a bit of a drive up to Mt St HelensFunnily, this post reminded me how my dad used to have a little jar filled with ash that he collected when he was up there on a work trip not long after the famous eruption. That would be a cool stop.

Multnomah FallsThis is a good choice. Parking lot there is pay but if you park at Wahkeena Falls its free and a quarter mile walk. A lot of the roadside parks have small lots and fill up quickly on the weekend. Vista House is along the gorge and is a good viewpoint. There are a lot of falls along the Columbia River Gorge that are just get out of the car and look at them. Bridal Veil and Latourrel are good short walks. Falls Creek is a 40 minute drive and 4 mile round trip but cool. Silver Falls is a trail with a bunch of falls. If heading towards Helens Ape Caves are interesting. Cannon Beach is an hour and a half drive and the ocean is always good. Rocky Butte park gives a good view of the city.
