Like seriously - I guess I'm out of the loop. I only go to the theater maybe like once every couple years if it's a really big interesting movie.

Then I learn some people have already gone like 7 times this year? And that's a low number?

So some of y'all are really spending hundreds or thousands a year at movie theaters? SHEESH.

I spend that on my game collecting and call it a day.

I went to the movies I believe 3 times this year so far, twice in this past month. Saw Hell of a Summer and Until Dawn in April. Debating getting the Stubs rewards plus plan because we seem to be going to the movies more and more. Save some money on taxes and fees.

Better than the people who go to a bar every weekend (or day)

Some people really like to watch and critique movies, film study is pretty popular, it's a pretty harmless interest.

I mean I get it - but damn. I couldn't name 5 movies that came out this year so far probably. Only one I know offhand is Sinners.

Why does that mean people who like movies are doing something wrong though?
I don't like to go, because my wife and kid think we have to get snacks and shit so it's $100 to see something that will be streaming in 3 weeks.

But our theater does offer a $25 movie club membership that let's you see as many movies as you want for $25 per month. (I'm not a member)

It's not wrong - and maybe I shouldn't be surprised!

I guess it's like realizing just how Wrestling is popular - or monster truck rallies - or rodeos.

It's like $20 for a matinee right? Plus any snacks you get.

When I had my Regal subscription, going to the movies at least 2 times was more than enough to make up for the price of the subscription. I don't have it anymore because I don't have that much free time, but it also taught me that I could go to the movie theater and watch it by myself. It felt awkward at first, until you realize that everyone is only paying attention to the movie and not you.
DI MOLTO!
It's almost like people have different hobbies, interests, and spending habits than you.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Obviously youve never enjoyed a movie so much that at the end you just to have to join in a round of applause.

After something like that you cant just wait another year.

Well I guess I've been aware of "movie clubs" where people would get together over a shared interest in movies and all go watch them and then talk about it after. Especially after the internet there are clubs for almost everything. It's honestly healthier than sitting at home playing video games alone like I do.
I typically go on weekend mornings / afternoons for 25% off matinee prices. It's really not as expensive as you seem to think. Me and my wife getting 2 tickets is like $18 tops.

Sorry I was off. If I was to see Until Dawn again around 1PM this Saturday, it will be $20.98 for two adult tickets.

I don't.
Never trust a snake.
I only go because my gf would want to see a particular movie. Last one we saw was the new Captain America movie.

I go maybe once a year at most. Last saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Mario before that and Joker before that.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.
TC probably collects some really sus games but thinks that's normal.
I go to about two movies a year. I don't really make a point of hitting a particular frequency or anything, though; it's more that only about two movies a year interest me enough to go see them in theaters.

My last four were:

GotG3
Gladiator II
Mickey 17
American Graffiti

Not in that order, lol.

While I really don't watch movies whatsoever (Both in theaters or streaming) I think it's fine... It's just their hobby and their money at the end of the day...

Eh, if there's quite a few big movies I'll go a few times a year. Usually 2-3, haven't gone lately though. Think the last one I saw in theaters was Alien Romulus. Had been quite a while before that one as well.

But I don't really ever go out of the house much either. Only for work or to get groceries sometimes. So a trip to the movies is a nice treat that gets me away from home for a bit.

Sometimes I go and see the same movie twice, like Presence. Once by myself, once I took my wife with me.

I've gone 20 times so far this year. Around 50 each year the last two years. I have AMC A-List, so it's like $24 a month and I can see up to 3 movies a week.
The answer to the question nobody asked.
The only reason i go so much is because I have regal unlimited. Plenty of movies I could skip but why not? I have a movie lined up every weekend from the end of May to mid August

I actually just canceled my subscription my annual subscription to cinemark. Lost my platinum status. They were gonna charge me $143.

It's pretty b.s. that they charge you fees as a free member just to buy a ticket from their app. As if it's Fandango.

Still have AMC left.

I could see you, but I couldn't hear you You were holding your hat in the breeze Turning away from me In this moment you were stolen...
How they spend their money is their business and not for you to worry about. I'm sure you splurge on things too. I personally don't go to the theater often anymore either, but that's because cinema hasn't been consistently great in years, it's $40 for 2 people, and we've been spoiled getting movies on streaming within 2 months of them hitting theaters.

The most I ever went when I actively did so, was 2-3 times a year, sometimes only once. Usually a big arrival like Transformers, then the random oddball stuff like As Above So Below and ofcourse the obvious bait like Zootopia.

I think ever since 2018 I've literally only seen Oppenheimer and Transformers Rise of the Beasts.

... Really didn't need a theater to see either of those tbh, but I did appreciate the MASSIVE ROBO CHEE taking up an entire wall when he walked on screen.
Working at a theatre for as long as I did basically killed any desire to spend my free time there long before I quit. Since leaving 4-5 years ago, I think I've seen Endgame, Across the Spider-verse, Terrifier 2/3, Furiosa, The Gentleman, Operation Fortune and one a few weeks ago that I honestly can't remember what it was at this point.
The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
Although it was a long time ago when I was in the Navy and we weren't out to sea I would take every opportunity to go to the base theatre and watch a movie. It got me off the ship which was important so you didn't get screwed into working when you were off.

And secondly it was super cheap. This was mid to late 90's but movies on base were like $2 and you could get 50% of that back from a program the Navy ran where you got 50% back on all entertainment you did as long as you had receipt/stub.

When we were in port and when I wasn't living at my townhouse at the beach I had like a 2 year period where I went to like almost every new movie that came out each week. Sometimes that was like 4 movies a week and I did it every week. I couldn't rent a movie for a few years to watch at home because I had watched literally everything that came out. It was especially great in the summer because they kept their theatres ice cold. And a guy on my ship his wife worked the concessions and she gave me free popcorn and soda.

But after the Navy when I came back home I barely went and then I got really into home theatre and my stuff at home is so much better quality experience so I'd rather watch at home.

Also, when I was in the Navy we had the coolest place out in town called cinema cafe where they played movies that had previously been in the theatre like 3 to 6 months previously. The ticket was only 90 cents but the main draw was you sat at a nice table like a dinner theatre and they had really decent food there and you could get a nice meal. You could also order drinks. I would go there and sometimes rewatch movies I had already watched and just get some killer loaded nachos and a pitcher of beer. Great concept and idea. Loved it.

you frequent moviegoers are ruining my plans to sit in a mostly empty theater and enjoy a movie long after general interest has died down but still a ways to go before it hits home release.

Go at non peak times or wait a few weeks? Really depends on the movie too

I've never been a big movie person either. Especially as they've gotten longer. Any move that is approaching or surpassing 3 hours long is a challenge for me. If I'm going to watch anything that long it might as well be at home where I can pause it and continue it another day if I need a break, or decide the movie isnt worth.

I've dragged my mom to the last 2 sonic movies though lol. Definitely doing it again for Sonic 4!

Last three movies that I've seen in theater over the last 5-6 years.

Sonic 2
Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness
Sonic 3

That's the thing with me. i can't sit and watch a movie for 2 hours at home at once. It's way more doable in a theater

Ticket price is irrelevant.

Last time I saw a movie, three fancy showing tickets were $36 or $39 or something. Three medium drinks, one medium popcorn, and two small popcorns was $42 or $45 or something. And the popcorn was garbage compared to what I make at home on the stovetop.

But more on topic, the people who do that have subscriptions where they pay $25 a month or something and can see as many movies as they want, but I doubt that covers popcorn and drinks.
