Good for him, but Tony Khan is such a terrible wrestling owner to let one of his top talents do this, especially needing a year off.
Knowing Tony Khan, he probably gave Darby two options and let him make the choice. Either put off doing the climb for a few years, be pushed as the next top hero face, and win the AEW world title off of Moxley, or do the climb now, give up him spot so the booking can pivot to someone else, and no promises on Darby's booking when he gets back. And of course, we all know what choice Darby made in that case, and I'm sure TK would respect it too.
