Yeah.

The joysticks are mouse movements and the D-Pad is used as arrow keys.

When you said back in the day and talked about text adventure I was thinking like Zork. As for point and click I was thinking of one of my favorite series Kings Quest or speaking of Zork there was Return to Zork which like this game came out in 1993, right before I graduated high school.
