For something like that, I follow the instructions. Skipping the stir step is a good way to have the edges burn

Usually if I skip instructions, one part of the food is volcanic hot and the other is ice cold. So I stir

I dont use a microwave.
I only use a microwave for reheating dishes I have made in my kitchen so there are no directions. I don't buy anything specifically that has directions to be made in a microwave.

Theoretically though I would follow the directions and stir and do a temperature check. Typically my microwave is a higher wattage so it warms things quicker than usual. I think most things with directions are like for microwaves around 1,000 watts and mine is is 1200. The smaller one we have at work is like 800. Takes me longer to heat my food up at work than home.
