yea, it has some of my favorite gameplay in a turn-based game.

it could get pretty chaotic, though.
Don't you agree, Zach?

Kinda yes, but system wise it's a step down from divinity original sin 1.
I dislike the armor system and the number bloat has gotten even worse

One of my top 15 games of all time, so easy yes.
It was too smart for me, but I still liked it, what I played of it. I actually played the first one on PS4 for awhile and I was thinking, surely I'll do better at this on a PC with the newer game. The original felt like it was designed for co-op and yet still on the PS4.
Today's the same as ever.
I do, but every time I get off the tutorial island I'm just like "yeah, I think I'm done here.

Like, there's a great game in there, obviously. But dammit I just get so sick of tiptoeing around and getting pulverized every encounter.
Doesn't take a lot of brains to be a good fighter.
yes, but as with so many other RPGs, i get to later acts and then get overwhelmed and just shut off the game and don't go back to it.

i really enjoyed what i played though.

Do you make custom characters or choose a class like in Diablo?
^ custom characters with multiple races.

iirc, you can also multi-class.

If I can only stomach 1 playthrough, who should be in my team to experience the most enriching story? And which character should be my main?

Been awhile since I played, but generally. In fact, now that I've played BG3, I'd probably enjoy playing it more.

Yes but it was a frustrating experience. You shouldn't have to min max your party and dialogue choices just to get by on standard difficulty.

Yeah what is the deal with the first game

that too. I don't want to have to do every quest in the chapter to survive. in most games I choose the content I play based on my RP

I think I enjoyed the gameplay more than BG3, tbh.
The food here is terrible. My steak was so tough it attacked my coffee and the coffee was too weak to defend itself.

This tbh. It's a good game, but during the final Act I was getting crushed so hard I just stopped playing.
Am I going too hard?

Isn't there a story difficulty?

I actually like a lot of the combat systems better than BG3. I feel like the basic action points allow for a lot more tactical decisions vs movement and attack and spell slots and bonus attacks and...which can be overwhelming or get wasted a lot of turns. And the focus on elemental damage and environmental hazards was great.

If you're not making your own character, then Fane is appropriate for your MC. Otherwise definitely have him on your team. Red Prince has some great dialogue and is a pretty unique character. After that it's up to you and who you like. I picked Lohse, Ifan, and the elf.
This was my first exposure to Divinity and I loved it. I never finished it, though. I might need to fix that.

For main character, Fane and Lohse would be my top 2. Fane has the closest connection to the main story, while Lohse has strong connections to another pretty big character that is also involved with one of the endings (and in general she makes coming face to face with that character much more interesting).

As for party members, same deal applies with them. I would say, after those 2, the next best choices for party members are Red Prince and Sebille, as both of them help expand on the lore of their respective races (with Red Prince being the one Id put ahead since his plot thread lasts longer than Sebilles, whose ends kind of early).

Ifan and Beast are alright but their stories and connections to things are far less interesting than the other 4s imo.

its like BG3 where you can either create a custom character or pick an origin character (though unlike in BG3, you can customize the origin characters appearance and class in the creation screen).

There isnt really classes in this game (hence why I put it in quotes earlier). The ones in the creation screen are really just presets, but you dont even have to stick to what they give as you can go through and edit your attributes and skills to whatever you want.

I got up to the arena in the tutorial area and stopped playing.

Obviously a great game but I'm too dumb for it.
Pretty enjoyable, though I reached the beginning of the last Arc, got busy, and now can't go back as I forgot everything about both its story and its mechanics :(.

I played it with mods, including one that changed the defense system in ways I don't recall.

So I've beaten the game but only technically.
