PS4 looks great
Easily the Switch eShop. The amount of half-baked, effortless indie garbage on it eclipses the amount and quality of genuine shovelware on the Wii and DS
Thanks for reading!
switch and switch 2 share the same libraries, so both now, congrats switch 2
We will leave this place an empty stone
NES is actually a good answer too, but i'd say Wii beats it out

switch AI "hentai" puzzle slider visual novels reign supreme, though

Something about calling digital games shovelware just feels off . Wii it is
Switch 2, because they share the same eshop, but switch 2's will show you more bullshit at a faster rate.

It's this. I feel like Wii and GBA possibly had more shovelware in terms of physical releases, but Switch eShop is loaded with junk.
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life."
With the Wii it was more of an actual problem because the majority of it was physical and took up shelfspace.

The Switch shovelware is mostly digital and a lot of it can be ignored.

I dunno, I just ignore what I'm not interested in.

Nintendo systems in general exist for a handful of exclusives tbh.

249 titles with just the word "hentai" in them for the Switch eShop.

By comparison, there are 2499 games currently on sale. So literally 10% of those games are "hentai" in just name alone.

I'm not as avid a gamer as I used to be but I definitely remember looking in the game aisle for Wii games as a kid and just seeing row after row of Imagine Babies or whatever trash those games were

The Wii can't compare, because now, anyone and their grandma can just release their slop onto the eShop.

The Wii by a country mile. Everybody and their brother was pushing out shovelware for that console due to its unexpectedly huge popularity with non-gamer adults who didnt know any better as well as Nintendos typical demographic.

The switch has the wii beat because of all the garbage that ends up on the eshop.

I was gonna say the Wii but yeah, the current eShop which Switch and Switch 2 share has awful quality control, leading to tons of absolutely shit tier games just being allowed on there.

Wii. Switch shovelware flooding the eShop is an issue but it's largely ignorable. AAA devs were regularly shitting out poor party games on the Wii for a quick buck and it was all over stores

This. If you want a good laugh or several, Rerez on YouTube has covered several of the most infamous Wii shovelware titles, from Ninjabread Man and its several reskinned clones to Chicken Shoot and a bunch of stuff in between. My favorite has to be CiD the Dummy though since its effectively the back alley shady looking dude selling suspiciously cheap DVDs and Blu-Rays out the back of a van equivalent of Mega Man, not to mention CiD himself is quite a jerk to the damsel in distress for seemingly no particular reason other than meanness.

I feel like including systems with online storefronts makes this an unfair competition.

Limit it to games with an actual physical releases or something, because the 64 had ludicrous amounts of shovelware considering that the companies also had to produce the actual cartridges and whatnot.

It's hard to compare some "programmed in thirty minutes and shotgunned onto the Internet" indie garbage from nowadays with the stuff from pre-connectivity, since the old ones still had to deal with production and distribution.

To me DS and wii shovelware while pretty stupid was still held back from maximum shit-etude via being in a time when digital game purchases on consoles was still in it's infancy. Like even the laziest and probably reskinned DS and Wii shovelware games still needed to be printed on physical carts and discs thus the shovelware numbers aren't as high as they could have been had those platforms had modern digital store fronts.

*For the Wii shop in particular, you couldn't even buy digital actual full-priced wii games. Games like super smash bros brawl, mario kart wii, and xenoblade for example.

Wii Shop video games was reserved for either virtual console game purchases, or wiiware game purchases. (The smaller xbox live arcade and playstation store type of stuff. Like mega man 9, gradius/contra/castlevania rebirth etc.).*

The switch has no such limits of the amount of shit it can hold on the eshop. No longer is the digital storefront reserved for those smaller games, all games can now be hosted here. Quality control is barely a thing that exists. AI slop is a thing in the modern day. Because of the switch's popularity and video gaming getting that much more popular as the years go on the sheer amount of shit eclipses what the NES, DS and Wii could muster, lmao.

The switch is it's own beast when it comes to shovelware.

The only way that the N64 could maybe win is by percentage, just based on how much less games it had in general than other Nintendo systems. That said, I can't think of many games that I would consider shovelware on the N64. Certainly there are bad games on it, but not many specifically shovelware games that I can think of.

It may have been a faulty example, I don't remember the lineup that well, but the underlying point remains.

This. The Switch has SUCH a problem with shovelware, just go to the shop and browse and you'll be shocked at how much there is. The Wii was bad for it but the Switch takes it to a whole other level.
The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.
At least once a week there's a new game with "hentai girls" in the title in the Switch eShop. Also a new cat-themed Where's Waldolike. Also two "games" that are just empty environments to walk around in. Also new AI generated visual novels. Also a new reskinned management sim with AI generated cover art. Also several repackaged mobile games.

I'm sure there are other weekly releases I'm forgetting about. Plenty of 2d platformers, but it's hard to say how many of those are quick procedurally generated cash grabs vs low budget passion projects.
