Yeah. I think whether you like the game is definitely entirely dependent on whether or not you like the Addition combat system. Outside of that the combat is very simple.
The music and settings are neat too. The plot is pretty hammy and the characters are almost all JRPG/Anime cliches but it's simple fun. Some specific segments like Law City Zenebatos are really cool and original I think.
It was mainly the writing and characcters I couldn't stand. Like, mid 90's JRPGs were never Pulitzer Prize level, but this one seemed exceptionally bad. Most of the dialogue was the other characters going on long expositions, explaining basic concepts, like "what is a dragon?" to the main character. And then everyone abruptly agreeing with each other when whatever the next destination is decided upon.
