Whoops voted the wrong one. I meant to pick Splinter is Yoshi.
Italian, French, German.
Splinter is Yoshi.

Being Yoshi's pet in 1990 was not even an origin story tbh. He was literally already learning martial arts before he even got mutated, with zero explanation.

Why would Yoshi start calling himself Splinter?

Why's the rat gotta be normal? NYC sewer rats may as well be a playable race in the game of life.
And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to your span of life?

While I'm not aware of it ever happening it doesn't seem impossible.
Splinter as Yoshi. For as silly as tmnt is it's probably even sillier that Splinter was really just a rat in a cage that learned martial arts and then got mutated after the fact.
Who is? I am!
Rats are very intelligent animals. Pre-mutation Splinter crudely mimicking his master's moves is a believable novelty for the series' tone imo. And after mutation he's got juiced up intelligence to practice them properly. It's never seemed too outlandish for me. >_>

But really the reason I like the pet origin is because it makes Shredder feel more threatening. The Yoshi/Tang Shen/Saki story is always the same, but Splinter being a normal rat during those events makes Shredder feel like a grand, multi-generational villain. And his reaction when first confronted with Splinter post-mutation, like "Wait? Yoshi's fucking rat? Are you serious?" The dynamics in play are just more interesting. <_<

Yeah I was just thinking about that. Kinda funny how the much more serious film made such a silly claim that an ordinary rat learned ninjitsu just by mimicking its owner.
Probably the only Mario Maker 2 level I'll ever create worth sharing.

I'm fine with Splinter being the pet rat, but 2012's handling of it made me more open to Splinter being Yoshi directly.

I like the idea of Splinter being Yoshi better. I feel like having a history makes things more emotional. A pet rat would have been there like 2 years at most.
It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

That was what sold me on it, too.

I like him as a human first.

if hes a rat first then him being some great karate master makes zero sense. Plus teaching the turtles how to read, write, speak and be more human like also doesnt make sense.

Plus you lose a history with shredder and you also lose him being a tragic type character.
It says online Splinter was a Norway rat, if true their maximum lifespan is 3 years. Not much time to learn much ninjitsu. I understand the mutation made them live longer, but I am talking pet time training.

At least as a human he was trained from an early age which makes more sense imo.
