Might not be saying much considering the state of the franchise but I really did like Zero a lot. Just a shame the control scheme gives the game a really awkward learning curve. Past that it's actually pretty fun.

As the Wii Us and SFZs biggest hater, I disagree.

The game basically killed the franchise.

People really exaggerated the control scheme and the use of the gamepad.

You can literally just turn it off in the Pause menu to where it plays like the old ones. There are also parts that require you to look through the cockpit - which was the gamepad - but you can just press Select to switch to it in-game.

You can turn all of the gimmicky stuff off.

Well, the all-range mode parts kinda suffered despite that, since they removed the radar that shows the enemies you need to fight and the bosses were kinda designed around you being able to see when they're open for attack at almost all times.

It's easily Assault. Putting aside the controls, Zero is just not that good.

Assault had the best multiplayer is for sure.

I'd give it to the fanmade Star Fox Event Horizon:

Id either give it to 64 or Assault.

Id love to see what Adventures wouldve been like if the development cycle was allowed to finish. As jank as it was, it was fun.

I liked both Assault and Zero, I felt like the hate for them was way overdone.
However, they're still just not 64.
What a fuddy duddy.
The 3DS remake of 64 doesnt get enough love.

Best one since *Adventures (which is an amazing game). And yes, it is.

Thats not really saying much though lol. Star Fox Assault is kind of ass, and Ive heard that Command isnt so great (I do want to try it out one of these days though).

I remember enjoying Zero well enough, but its been a long since Ive played it. I typically just replay Star Fox 64 over and over lol.

Isnt it a shame that Nintendo hasnt really been able to replicate that? How difficult could it be? Make a rail shooter with branching paths so that the game can be different every time you play (or at least, it wont be the exact same thing, you know what I mean). Make it short enough so that its not a huge time commitment, but make it fun as FUCK so that people will want to go back to it multiple times. Make the controls super tight. Give it a good level design.

It cant be THAT difficult.
Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds, along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest.. is silence.
I liked Zero. It was fun to get medals and to open the alternate paths. The controls were easy to get used to. The only one I didnt like was the side view cockpit thing. I think an option for normal controls would have been good, but I really didnt have a problem.

I liked Adventure when it came out, but as time went on, I saw the seams coming apart towards the late game, where areas are emptier, less developed, and kind of ugly. The game clearly wasnt finished.

Assault had a lot of high points, but besides medal hunting, the game was empty. It had multiplayer, but who was gonna play that game with you? This was peak Halo time.

Never played Command.
