Hell, even back in the 80's, my father told me that there were going to be 9 Star Wars movies, so I don't think calling it Episode IV was exactly tacked on.It absolutely was.
Resident Evil 2/4I missed the part where you explain how Resident Evil 1/3, Assassin's Creed 1, Arkham Asylum and Mass Effect 1 didn't eff up.
Assassin's Creed 2
Final Fantasy 6/7/9
Arkham City
Mass Effect 2
This is just a small, and quickly thought out, conclusion to how wrong you are.
It absolutely was.
When Star Wars first launched in 1977, it was just "Star Wars". It did not have the tagline "Episode IV: A New Hope" in the opening crawl, which was added for home media releases. Lucas waffled on exactly how many movies there would be, sometimes going as high as 12, but nine seemed to be the number he settled on after a while (before later claiming that it was always intended to be a six movie series). His early drafts of the story notably all start with *somewhat* similar premises to A New Hope, not anything resembling The Phantom Menace, albeit with some changes (the Death Star didn't originally show up until later in the film, and Alderaan was originally a "Sith Prison Planet" where Leia was being held).

I also don't know what the FFs are even doing in this list, lol.

007 Diamonds are Forever
Final Fantasy 6/7/9
I see some people don't know what 'sequel' means.Yes. Indeed. Some people dont.
I wonder why I left those first games out of a discussion about sequels. Now I'm wondering what you even think "unnecessary sequel" means.
Any alien movie after AliensEven the intro to 3 is pretty much an unashamed confession that there was no story left to continue.
All Police Academy movies after 1Ridiculous, Bobcat Goldthwait wasn't even part of the force yet and Tim Kazurinsky/Sweetchuck wasn't even in the first movie!
Gremlins 2That's crazy. 2 is as good as the first, just for different reasons.
2 was at least sorta setup with the ending of 1.It was originally meant as just a fun ending. "To be continued" was put in after the studio said they wanted a sequel.
yeah the lies lucas has told about the creation of star wars is baffling
as i find the story of the creation of the films far more interesting than the BS he tells about the creation

Id say the second too because it is kind of ass, but it technically does cover part of the book so

If you don't like or haven't seen Neverending Story II...I hope you fall into a sinkhole.I really never heard it did fyi.
Halloween 3Get outta here, Halloween 3 is great and I wish they had stuck with the anthology plan for the franchise instead of just beating Michael Myers to death for a billion sequels.
Shrek 4It's still weird how the Shrek movies go 1-2-4.
It's still weird how the Shrek movies go 1-2-4.Shrek the Third hate is so fucking cringe lmao theres nothing wrong with that movie and its a hell of a lot better than Forever After.
