The comments section is a complete nightmare but not unexpected. Lots of boomers and older gen x weirdos parroting typical MAGA talking points and saying how all of this was unjust, or getting mad at Jim because of his left-wing views.

Jim cornette is the highest viewed wrestling podcaster, and was also a manager, promoter, trainer, etc. hes responsible for the OVW class that produced Cena, Orton, Lesnar, and Shelton Benjamin.

Travis Heckle made funny artwork for Cornettes podcast and apparently not a very sensible person.

It's always astounding to me how Jim Cornette is such a sensible and liberal-minded person for everything except pro wrestling , but when he talks about pro wrestling, he has some of the most outdated and boomer-ass takes imaginable.

Jim Cornette is a racist and sexist wrestling personality from the 80s and 90s that ironically has his own MAGA cult like following that take everything he says about wrestling as gospel for some reason despite his views being 30-40 years out of touch.

This. He's a staunch Democrat who who shits on Trump constantly, but you're not going to find a more conservative and pessimistic critic of modern wrestling.

Aside from his weird views on women, can you give any examples of his takes being so outrageous?

"Hey don't shove broken glass into your eyes and drop each other on your heads while setting your feet on file and doing 100 Piledrivers in the opening match, it's a work." seems pretty reasonable to me.

Dude constantly praises modern wrestling when it isn't shit.

Some things he actually is behind the times on, but not nearly as much as people make out to be. He definitely is problematic on other issues to put it mildly.

He mostly wants wrestling to not look so obviously fake or choreographed looking and to make more sense logically, at least as logically wrestling can be.

People act like he wants wrestling to go back to the early 20th century where they do 30 minute head locks. These folks obviously never watched a Midnight Express match.

I disagree with tons of stuff Jim Cornette says about modern wrestling...but if you don't know who he is your childhood must have sucked. When you see a tennis racket your mind actually thinks about TENNIS, crazy!
"I'm going to have to disagree with everything you say from now on. Go ahead, say babies shouldn't be skinned alive, see which side I'm on."
Wild i listen to Jim often

I love the fact that the Tennis racket was actually a legit weapon corny used to protect himself from crazy fans.

Sometimes the fakest things about wrestling are real.

Also this.

His main out of touch take is probably how dismissive he is of smaller wrestlers and women wrestlers not named Rhea Ripley. His main thing is suspension of disbelief, and he cant see people buying that a 510 150 pound dude beat a 63 240 pound dude in a physical contest, which is pretty fair.

He doesnt like spotfests like AEW does, but mostly because if everything is special, nothing is. If you do high spots all the fucking time, how are people supposed to care? Stuff loses its appeal when you see it multiple times every week.

Just to ad too this, he doesn't even mind smaller guys beating bigger guys.

He just hates them being presented as equals. Little guys squaring up to big guys and kicking their ass. He thinks the little guy should be an underdog fighting from underneath, picking his spots.

Doesn't bother me but I do get it.

Yeah. Ive never heard him shit on Rey Mysterio Jr., but there are definitely people in that weight class hes very critical of. I think you can at least argue hes being fair about it.

Not really the same thing, but I think his hatred of the Young Bucs and to a lesser extent Omega is fair.

Never got this criticism. It could apply to almost all combat sports and lots of other sports in general. It has an air of homophobia too.

It's really strange. I guess he just felt that strongly about being a Trump cultist openly. It's kinda sad.

Sure, but not with me. My criticism was mostly with the insinuation that kids and adolescents would have a shitty childhood for not liking a specific person that was a part of yours. Not saying you're not allowed to enjoy it, just that we're not all beholden to what you value and you're not beholden to us either.

My childhood was amazing without any sort of sports or announcer figures being a part of it, the lack of their presence was also not why my teenage and adult years were so shitty.

It was mostly tongue-in-cheek. However, the majority of "professional" wrestling is sweaty/oily muscular dudes wearing more often than not nothing but underwear and boots trying to dominate the other by being on top of them and slamming their 3/4th naked bodies into each other. After gay sex/porn it's like the most homoerotic thing I can think of. And then JoJo's Bizarre Adventure came along, which I do thoroughly enjoy, which is why this is more of a musing about what is easily the most societally acceptable form of publicly viewed homoeroticism and not condemnation.

Feel free to enjoy whatever you want, the crux of my point wasn't even about wrestling, however about someone taking issue with a very particular announcer/personality not being a part of a child's life.

Like, sure, it sucks that some people grew up without watching Fred Rogers as well, especially since that was one of the best human beings people can model themselves around, ESPECIALLY for the time he became popularized in, however that doesn't mean Gen Z (of which I'm not, just using them as an example) who've never heard of him or Bob Ross had a shitty childhood.

This is true, so in terms of gayness it goes 1) Gay sex/porn 2) Original Olympics 3) Professional Wrestling 4) REAL Wrastling (yes this is a South Park reference) and 5) JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, of which I am open to debate for placing amongst 3-5th.

Ive seen worse cult infestations in other Corny videos but it is certainly there. Stuff like idiots who still think same thing both sides is a thing or what we would expect from the Guardians of Pedophiles (saying who cares about Epstein Files, while accusing Biden) among other comments.
