I'm not sure what to make of this. I've read the article twice and I don't see how this is helpful in math.

tldr:
From what I gather, children are shown brief images of a set number of dots (like dice number) and learn that the picture corresponds to a number, with no counting involved.

I've never heard the term, but I get the concept. I think it helps with mental arithmetic, but I'm not sure if it has any use in higher levels of math.

I'm not sure I like the word, but the concept intrigues me. Like, it's something most people do without thinking about it, so actually taking advantage of it in education seems like a good idea to me.
I teach first grade. I teach this skill to my students. Its to help them with mental math and number sense.
How do I feel this good sober?
