There are times it can be harmless, but I can't think of any examples of a timer adding to the game.
I guess, there's a mission in Devil May Cry 3 that kind of has a timer: Your health slowly (Well, not that slowly) drains, so you have a limited time to get through each area and the overall mission. You also get healing items as you go, so it feels more like a few mini fast-paced sections, rather than a single timer counting down.
Not at all. One is a self-imposed challenge with no real penalty, the other is the game saying "fuck you, you're done."this is pretty legit
There is a world of difference between something elected and something imposed. I don't want my games yo have an automated kill switch that decides when I'm done for me. Especially a game like Pikmin where exploring and taking your time is the POINT. There's a good reason the timer never came back
It really depends on what kind of mission it is for me.I also hate "you have X minutes to find Y hidden somewhere".
Survive for X minutes?
Keep X safe for Y minutes?
Get from point A to point B in X minutes?
Yeah, I can do that.
Find X objects in Y minutes?
Kill X specific enemies in Y minutes?
Tag X checkpoints and come back within Y minutes?
Screw you.
Dead RisingNow, you are making me want to play *this* game. :|
I also hate "you have X minutes to find Y hidden somewhere".Though not 'hidden', having to fight your way back across the entire stage of Statue in GoldenEye in under 3:00 to reach the helicopter before it detonates and kills Natalya. Not bad on Agent or Secret Agent, but 00 Agent is hell with the enemy shotguns.
