I think what a lot of people are failing to realize with the "These chats don't sound legit!" is/was... this kid is a right winger raised by very obvious far right parents in a gun nut household who may or may not have been having some ideological whiplash from being exposed to people that are NOT those things and who just killed someone. Dude was far from normal.
As for them being doctored/made up. Considering he is still alive, the person he is talking to is still alive, and they came from Discord. That's multiple different avenues of someone calling their bullshit. You can try to counter with some form of "The administration will just pressure them not to!" then I would say, why even go that extra step. Yes, yes, incompetence and all that, but again if you're going to fake shit then there is no reason you wouldn't also just kill the kid, say he got into a shootout, and plant some evidence on him saying "I'm a far leftist who loves Kamala and wanted Kirk to get coconutted!"
