With the wild card standings being what they are, and the season winding down as it is, we're slowly finding out who the choke artists are.

Thank you for fighting the fight for so long for me.
Another year of the pitching blues for the Yanks but I blame Cashman for such a lackluster trade deadline showing.
So I reached into the glove box, another liquor store went down.

Hey, do any other teams cut away from game action for an entire inning to go interview dogs in the crowd?
I apologize for nothing!

... hmmm. Pittsburgh? That sounds like a Pirates thing to do. Or Washington. XD

Got it in one. And that wasn't an exaggeration. The sideline reporter literally faked an interview with one of the dogs.

Damn Shohei went 5 hitless innings. I doubt they'll let him go past that though

Yeah... welp, don't fuck it up Wrobs

I say as the bases are loaded lol

No-hitter gone, shutout gone, lead gone.

Go Phils.
Damn I knew that would happen lol. I mean I didn't expect him to get pulled in the same inning, but I very much expected the Dodgers to blow the lead. It just seems to happen when their pitching gets off to a great start. Reliever comes in and wham, hits galore

The Cubs clinched a playoff spot.

Despite winning, the Orioles were eliminated. The Astros and Mariners winning gave them 83, which the Orioles can't catch. They're under .500 against each of the other bubble teams (Red Sox, Rangers, Guardians, Royals), so lose any tiebreakers.

The A's stay alive another day by beating the Red Sox, with the Red Sox / A's tiebreaker dependent on Wednesday's and Thursday's games.
Man the topic title feels a little on the nose right about now

Actually, it looks like the Cubs haven't quite clinched yet. An 87-75 tie involving the Cubs, Diamondbacks and Padres or a 4 way tie with them and the Mets would leave the Cubs out. Might be more situations if the Dodgers were also part of it.

A Cubs win or a Diamondbacks loss clinches a spot.

The A's would be eliminated with a loss to the Red Sox.

The Braves would be eliminated with a loss and a Mets win. 84th loss for the Braves, Mets would finish no worse than 79-83.

We can probably call it now. Up 4-0 after four batters.
I apologize for nothing!
I don't know if it's been mentioned since I've been a filthy casual in these topics, but we're likely going to have 3 teams in the playoffs that have never won a world series before. Seattle, San Diego, and Milwaukee. If my Yanks don't win, I'd want any of these 3 to go all the way.

Unreal that Cal hit #55 & #56 last night.

Anytime you beat a Mickey Mantle all-time record...you're having yourself a career year.

I wanted to be happy for other teams but frankly, I'm too bitter about how this season has played out. Maybe I'll have a better perspective when the hurting stops.

I say as Tanner fucking Scott takes the mound <_<

Well it's about time they don't blow a fairly sizable lead in the last few innings

12th time this season the Phillies won the first 2 games of a 3 game series and failed to complete a sweep. There was also the 4 game series against the Braves a couple weeks ago (the one with Schwarber's 4 HR game) where they won the first 3 and dropped the finale.
Next year is gonna be the year of the witches. We already have all kinds of weird stuff that's gone on in recent times -- like the Twins' rotting rally sausage and goofballs lighting incense to give good mojo -- but maybe this sort of spellcraft is best done by professionals after all?

I don't see many Reds games unless they play the Cubs. How is the attendance so low with the Reds having a very live chance to make the postseason? Is it Burrow depression?

Reds also have one of the most exciting young players in baseball on their team. It's crazy that fans aren't out there having fun watching Elly.

Goddamn, PCA's line drive just hit his own teammate in the head and led to an inning-ending out.

Because the owner sucks and they have like 8th least amount of wins in the league since he bought the team. Kind of hard to drum up fan interest when they don't won

Similar to the Orioles

Dodgers can clinch a playoff berth with a win or a Diamondbacks loss.

Cubs can ensure at least the NL 5th seed with a win or a Mets loss.

Rays eliminated with a loss to the Red Sox.

Braves eliminated with a loss or a Mets win.
