Canada Dude, in a dog costume, walks his dog

A Canadian man is turning heads and spreading joy in his community every time he takes his dachshund Maya for a walk. Thats because her owner, Rich Lutchford, dresses up in an inflatable dog costume while strolling through town with her.

What started as a simple idea for fun has grown into a local sensation. I just thought it would be funny, said Lutchford, who works as a roofer. People kind of look at me like, what is this? Other people are smiling, and I point at them and say, thats what its all about that smile.

The sight of a wiener dog walking a wiener dog has quickly become a community favorite. Everywhere he goes, people stop to take pictures, laugh, and sometimes even scream with surprise. Lutchford says thats exactly the reaction he hoped for spreading a little levity in times when people could use it most.

Lutchford has shared videos of his antics online, including trips to the dog park and even grocery store visits in full costume. The response has been overwhelming, with local groups inviting him to make appearances. Recently, the mayor of nearby Whitby honored him with a certificate recognizing the joy hes brought to the community.

Even Maya seems to enjoy her owners playful side. Lutchford says his dachshund gets excited when he puts on the suit. I think she actually likes me more as a dog than as a human, he joked.

For Lutchford, the mission is simple: brighten as many days as possible, one walk and one smile at a time.
