...Aretha Franklin was too goddamn powerful for their microphones.

Like, I just got through the part of the credits with all the famous musicians, and on her "EVERYBODY ON THE WHOLE CELL BLOCK" you can flat-out hear the system getting overwhelmed.

When I watched Blues Brothers for the first time 20 odd years ago that was my first exposure to Aretha Franklin. I knew of her and her songs but I think it was Blues Brothers that really got me thinking she's the greatest vocalist in mainstream music history.

And I stand by that.
