I played soccer when I was very young, but I didn't enjoy it. I don't even remember being told the rules or given any directions before it and I was pretty much told to just stay in one spot unless the ball got close to me. I understand baseball just fine. Don't quite understand football. I just don't care about sports and apparently had some misconceptions about what I said previously.
Football is a very arcane and byzantine sport. This is due to it being based on rugby while rapidly evolving into its own game. Also, early football was absurdly dangerous so for about the first 50 years of the sport there were a ton of changes made to make more safe, even if that meant drastically changing how the game is played (such as how the forward pass was created).
