You should not blindly trust either. Both governments are seeking to play a narrative that benefits them.

China is not your friend, the US is obviously not your friend. Dont take the words of a fully fledged authoritarian government nor one thats trying hard to get there at face value.

Do not forget that China was not upfront about Covid when it happened either. They also still deny their own genocide.

I'm not sure the US has "global hegemony". It can't do anything it wants now as it is.

I think the next step in America's decline is going from "America & Company" to "Europe & Friends".

The US deserves to lose it, but China is hardly the ideal candidate to take over it.

Not that anyone else with an even semi-realistic shot at it is much better.

Frankly there won't be another global hegemony.

We're looking at hitting 3.0C degrees of warming by 2050 based on current data and trajectories (civilization ceases to exist at around 2.6C of warming, and starts struggling at 2.0C.)

We're headed for a decade or two where the world is unstable with multiple blocs attempting to maintain power over the world order before a very rapid and very large collapse of civilization, and with it any capacity for a global hegemony.

The US absolutely deserves to lose it though. The US is the reason we're all dead people walking. The US and their fossil fuel mega corporations.

China won't get it, but frankly considering they're doing more to avert the complete extinction of the species than the US is (because at least they seem to understand there's no point ruling to leave a legacy if the world ceases to exist) they deserve it more than the US does.

China's suppression of dissent is far more serious than America's (right now anyway), and China has certainly committed many human rights violations. But China's leaders at least have some vision for the future and are ostensibly trying to improve their country for the sake of some sort of progress. Their leaders are authoritarian and horrible, but I do not believe that China's leaders wake up every morning thinking about how to make China a worse place. Trump and the GOP? I *do* think that they wake up every morning with the goal of making life shittier for non-MAGA Americans.

The GOP is trying to adopt all of China's negative traits without taking on any of its positive ones. If we're going to steer towards authoritarian repression, can at least get some nuclear power plants, massive solar power farms, high-speed rail connecting all of our major cities, futuristic mixed-use housing developments, and subsidized mass transit?

Because Trump's administration is embracing authoritarianism all for the sake of making our quality of life substantially worse, and that's sad.

It is crystal clear that the US deserves to lose its hegemon status.

China seems the likeliest to assume that role (if anyone does), but that wouldn't be much of an improvement (if any). It would definitely be less random, which could be a plus or a minus.
