...The Strata Wars:

The authors are joining forces for a new contemporary fantasy trilogy entitled The Strata Wars, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal. The books will be published by Saga Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

The series follows Jack Solomon, a struggling musician who, after his death, wakes up in a new reality, where music and light are considered magic and past eras play out underneath the streets of London.

Songs of the Dead, the series first book, will be co-written by Sanderson and Oruillian, and published in summer 2026. Orullian will write the trilogys remaining titles.

Rereading that right now, excited to move on to the sequel series for the first time. What do you think of that?
Feeling really good.

No disrespect, but 90% of isekai wouldn't change one way or another if they weren't isekai to begin with.
Curious to see Sanderson's take on the genre though.

I'll read the fucking phone book if it was written by Sanderson.

more mistborn, reckoners, or legion instead thanks

it really annoys me that there has been addition content added to reckoners and legion, but they're audio-only. i don't want to listen to someone tell me a book, it's not something my brain is capable of letting me do.

Marked it before it came out years ago and forgot about it. I guess I'm getting it off eBay now.

Just saying its alot of War of the Flowers premise. It's hardly orginal. Then again GRRM stole bits from Memory Sorrow and thorn

Not that I don't mind Iskeis. I just find the trends in ones I read the MC are insufferable. War of the Flowers is one, Thomas covenant(I hated that character).

There's another I forget the name. A dude dad disappears he finds a journal. Follows it and goes to a world where its a western/fantasy where his Dad was a hero. Hated the MC there too

Now a good one I liked was the Modesitt one with the Bardic Sorceress. If they ever made a movie or tv series from it Gwyneth Paltrow was my pick. She can sing and looks how the character is described. She's about the right age for it now too. Spellsong cycle was the series.

Many Isekais are made as isekais so they can just have an excuse to spoonfeed exposition to the MC without looking out of place for a 16-20 year old somehow not understanding how that world works.

Be fair to Sanderson, the guy's one of the few authors who actually staves off burnout by writing extra stuff.

We got Mistborn era 2 because he had writers block in Stormlight IIRC. This isn't coming at the expense of his main stories, and isn't likely to effect the timeline we get new stuff either due to how he keeps motivated because he does side stuff. It's a extra thing.
Currently Playing: Xenoblade X Definitive Edition (Switch), Fate/stay night Remastered (Switch), Arknights (Android)
that had shit all to do with what i said

Mistborn was always meant to be a generation spanning epic. He's currently writing Era 3, which was meant to be Era 2. Alloy of Law was a book he wrote during writer's block for Stormlight, but it was supposed to be a one-off interquel that would help bridge the time gap between Era 1 and Era 2. But then he did as he does and kept fucking writing. Until Wax and Wayne had enough books to become Era 2.

For the record he also intended an Era 3...ehich I guess is Era 4 now, that takes place during the space age. However he's also mentioned he might pull another wax and wayne and do a cyberpunk series in between eras 3 and 4...so. a new Era 4 where the space age becomes Era 5. And he thinks it'd be neat if doing all this let him write precisely 16 Mistborn books.

Others don't get to dictate what's normal and what isn't. It's something we decide for ourselves.
I realized something about Anime Isekais where they are put into a video game world. I was super confused when the younglings started spending their free time watching people play video games on Youtube. I pretty much do that now with anime. My excuse would be the games don't actually exist, so I can't play them myself. The camera angles are probably better too.
