I understand. It's a business for me even though I love animals. Squirrels for example in 25y they ate about $300k of my crop. I find them cute. I hated having to shoot them. Cows same way. I'd rather have them live long lives. It couldn't afford that with out selling them or for meat. We had a business to run. I mean sure I had some pet ones. Ruby for example. Her mom abandoned her. I had to bottle feed her for months. I was her mom. So in 5y I owned her she would follow me around. When I sold my herd when I closed the farm she was on the bus. It hurt my heart. I tried to find her a home and once I started over I would bring her back. Never found someone who could board her. It's my hope she's in someone's herd living a full life. I know she was sold but if you know cattle markets work some go to feedlot some go to people starting herds or looking to add. I sold 50 all at once so really couldn't keep track.
