yeah Ethan being mold felt like a response to people making fun of him reattaching limbs in RE7

This was a part of RE7 already. Only infected people would see child Eveline after she's aged.

Starting the DLC.

Not sure I fully trust this guy talking to Rose. Feels like he's maybe trying to help, but his main motive is to get her to do some experimentation bullshit.

So it's been 16 years according to this note. That'd make Rose...well 16. Baker house was 2018 I believe. 2021 for Village. That means we're now in 2038? Spencer Mansion and Racoon City was 98. Chris and Jill were in their early 20s probably. 39 years later so mid to late 60s now? I wanna see 50 year old Rebecca.

A second Rose. This is some Silent Hill Alessa vs. Cheryl type thing maybe. Only the other Rose would probably only be a few months older. Also pretty big Revelations 2 DLC with Natalia and evil Natalia.

Rose better pick up the pace with this little jaunt walk speed.

It is weird going from first to third person. Guessing this will feel like RE2make to some degree.

Please don't be stealth based.

Alright there's actually a buncha Roses so scratch that comparison from earlier.

Oh no dream Duke is evil.

Gonna guess "Michael" is Ethan. Doesn't seem like much of a reach. Course this whole thing is in Rose's mind or something, so who knows how valid any of it is.

This doesn't feel very good. The aiming in particular. But also just the moving and getting around enemies. For such a little girl, Rose feels like a brick.

Got 2 masks and not really enjoying this all because of how bad the controls are. The handgun is also incredibly weak for infinite enemies and the hitboxes aren't great for getting around them. Did the team that made this never work on one of the 3rd person RE games? I'm less excited to replay 8 in 3rd person now.

Got the shotty and some pipe bombs. Maybe that'll help.

Escaped the castle.

Oh hell yeah Dollhouse Part 2. Already down for this.

The manikin showing up around the corner where it wasn't before good.

Fuck! The third time with the manikin showing up right in your face was great. Better jumpscare than anything in the main game honestly. (nothing tops the baby, but that wasn't a jumpscare).

Oh god no. Now they moving.

Alright that part was fucking great. I've played horror games with that "don't look away" gimmick before, but it's been a while and seeing them move just a little in that jerky way was money. Plus walking backwards right into one behind you actually made me gasp lol.

Wait Rose hasn't seen Mia in forever? Fuck is she doing? Is Chris just her dad now?

Oh damn Eveline. Full on.

So Evie's consciousness survived inside Rose because Rose had da mold? Which also means Ethan's survived and anyone else who was moldy?

Hi Miranda. I hate you.

Love how they are going so out of the way not to show Ethan's face lol.

Beat Miranda.. That's the end.

Well I really liked the dollhouse again and the game felt like playing a low budget indy horror one which I kinda liked, but overall I think that was bad. I'm glad it was all in Rose's head even though it was the actual consciousnesses of Evie, Miranda and Ethan, but this whole direction is not what I want in my Resident Evil. I was super down for most things in Village. Giant freaks, vampires, werewolves, fishman. But the Ethan was mold all along and Rose was able to get pieced back together and reborn was a bit too far. This astral plane shit was even further.

Shame to end it all on a sour note, but I still loved Village and had a blast playing it. Gonna play Mercenaries, but that'll be later and not in this topic.

Thanks to everyone who posted and gave me some info. Would love to discuss the game and story further.

Up next is Resident Evil 4 Remake baby. Gonna try to start that in about a week or 2.

I hated that personally. It turned what could have been a really poignant moment into a sitcom gag reel. And it would have been a good little moment to have his face reveal be when he's meeting the daughter he never knew.

Nah I agree with ya. Shit was silly. Really expected them to drop it by the end, but nope.

I feel like they got the Urias Drac fights mixed up. The first one in the Beneviento tomb gave 0 resources to take it down and summons ground zombies with a decent amount of health, The second one in the oscar mill, a whole Level after the first one, throws tons of ammo and bombs for you to use and gives you explosive barrels that both heavily damage it and destroys the crow enemies it summons which are much easier to handle because they attack less and do less damage. I beat the second one on the first try while the first one took me over 20 resets and was the hardest boss I've faced yet.

Also the Beneviento house was amazing. I've actually seen Donna before, just never heard her name which makes sense in the context of the story.

I mean that's just progression. You have more stuff later in the game, especially if you're doing optional content

Both the Urias Drac fights are optional. But the second one that happens after you've already gathered up a bunch of supplies in the final section of the game gives you even more supplies with explosive barrels that do a chunk of damage to it while the first one that happens earlier gives you nothing. It's like if the duo El Gigante was fought at the middle of the game while you fight the solo El Gigante later with the dog backing you up.

Anyway I beat the game and that first Urias Drac is the hardest boss in the game by far lol.

Beat up to the dollhouse in Shadows of Rose. I second that the controls are way worse than the main game but this is definitely much more of a survival horror, even more than 7 was. Still killed nearly everything by saving after each kill and resetting for near perfect headshots. The only enemies I didn't kill were the ones in the blood cellar and even then I threw a bunch of pipe bombs. Dollhouse was kino again. They really can do silent hill type horror if they try. All the stuff with Michael and Rose was heartwarming.

Apparently, that's Canine from Chris's Hound squad. It says it if you have speaker subtitles on.

Beat the whole game. I liked it quite a bit. Could've used the teleport power earlier but it was a nice tension-filled romp and I really liked the Winters saga. I feel bad for Rose. Throughout the entire DLC there's not a single person who's nice to her besides her dead dad. Even K at the beginning was an illusion.

Think Lady D would have done more if Capcom knew how popular she was gonna be?

The DLC was developed after the game released so probably not. She did become playable in the mercenaries though.

Great, especially with the VR. Was actually very similar to RE4 in terms of going to this foreign village full of townspeople who lost their minds. There's "giants" and a big fish monster and a crazy cult leader plotting world domination as you try to rescue someone they abducted. There's a merchant and you can upgrade weapons and you've got inventory like the attache case. Lots of similarities.

Very fun though. Great stuff. Wasn't crazy about how the story ended up with a few of the beats towards the end, but not enough to really do any damage to my overall opinion of the game.

Yeah the Devs said their intention was to make a game with RE7's style of storytelling and RE4's style of gameplay.

I think for the most part they nailed it.

They could have just dropped the whole "Oh no ! Chris turned eviiiiiiil!" plot because that didn't work at all.

I have yet to play Village, I've borrowed it twice from the library but never got around to playing it.

I'm hyped for 9 though

I loved it! I've replayed it 3 times already and intend to replay it 3 more times (one would be a casual run speedrun for the achievement though) The gameplay is honestly one of the best after RE4. Plotline could be better and more coherent but the emotional beats hit well and the 5 villains are some of the most memorable in the series. 7 and 8 really did the antagonists well by characterizing all of them personally instead of having them only really show up at their final confrontations.
