I think he'd be doing it even if he only had a week left in office. All the guy cares about is leaving a legacy of Cheeto dust shit stains everywhere so people never forget him. This is just an extension of that. Even if he is voted out in a few years we'll still be stuck with his stupid white house ballroom
He is an absolute failure at business management and government "leadership". His whole MO is trying to achieve lasting results of some kind that people will remember him for. Shit like this is easier than things like, you know, foreign policy agreements and domestic achievements. He's even shitting over his long-term wins from the first term, like the USMCA, just to prove that he's "doing something".
