I'm pretty sure a shorter video would make more money than a 4 hour one due to viewer retention. Otherwise every Youtube video would be 8 hours of filler.

The criticism of "Well you make money" to youtubers has always been a weird one to me.

You'll notice that the responses opposed to Karl are the same attitudes, vibes and sentiments expressed by MAGA when Trump is criticized. Because taken on merits fraud is indefensible.

Longform videos tend to supplement with tons of ad rolls for that reason, as well as Patreon and sometimes Brilliant or Nebula. Shortform videos do often make more money but one thing people often forget about viral fame is that it's quickly consumed and discarded. It's a lot less stable and you can't predict when your video is going to pop off. Even if you do go viral, there's no guarantee you can ride that wave into stable income. Though seriously trying to make a career on YT is something that's basically playing the lottery to begin with... Anyways. Longform can offer stable growth among more loyal, insightful communities.

I'm also not criticizing Jobst for making money. Fundamentally, a YTer is someone who wants to receive recognition and likely compensation for the content they share. Like, bare minimum, the desire to put something on YT is a desire for someone to see what you've made or thought etc. There's nothing at all wrong with seeking money for the effort they put into their products.

I don't like the guy, but my statement on him needing to make money was completely neutral. The sky is blue, the grass is green, Jobst lost a ton of money in a lawsuit and is obviously trying to make it back.
