Been subbed to him for a few years. He's a great YouTuber.

Love his stuff.

It's weird, I'm subbed to a bunch of creators in Japan but I've never heard of the person he's calling out. And they've apparently got quite the following.

Live streamer foreigners in Japan are giving visitors to Japan a bad name. I think it all began with Johnny Somali ( and he's now in legal trouble in South Korea for the same stuff he did in Japan)
I liked his video where he was ripping into foreigners who were behaving like pricks towards the locals

It's reaching a boiling point. A guy who got popular on instagram for just yelling at Chinese and Black tourists who mistreated the Nara deer has a house seat now when that's his only "qualification."

Been following his content for years. He's a lovely guy who is also respected by Japanese people. Believe him.
The bells haven't stopped ringing yet.
Not only is there a ton of idiot youtubers destroying property or harassing foreigners for clicks, but there are also a lot spreading misinformation and fear-mongering on social media as well. These are the kind of people that make Japanese citizens want stricter laws on on tourism.

He's great and I'm glad he called her out. For god's sake she named herself Oriental Pearl, but that's not the main point. I stumbled upon her videos a few times and it was quite obvious what she was doing.
There are plenty of YouTubers who do the opposite of what Pearl has done.

They go to countries and try to show them in a good light. I mean they do sometimes share bad experiences but from what I watched their criticisms seem valid.

Drew Binsky is the guy I'm talking about

This is that same YouTuber we called out for gifting on here like a year ago when someone posted one of her videos. I guess she's now at the level of literally making fake images.

I actually just saw a video of her on my FB suggestions, where she goes to some place and says she is dressing as a gyaru. Which seemed wrong. Then she goes on some rant about how her principle would go crazy if he saw her doing that. I thought she quit teaching? She claimed to be a full time influencer . Old video? I dont know but she is one of the more annoying Japan is craaaaaaaaazy ones.

They're basically calling each other liars. Loyalists for both party are saying the usual shit such as they're just doing to get clicks, they're jealous of each other, blah blah blah. Guess you won't really know unless you go there and see for yourself.

Eh there are multiple videos showing less grafiti there and that she faked some of it. Dont get why she thought that wouldnt catch anyone's eye.

She filmed in areas of Japan known for Yakuza, crime, and homelessness. Yakuza membership has been going down every year, and although Japan has had the lowest violent crime rate of any major country for quite a while, it has actually been going down every year as well. Similarly the lowest homeless rate of any major country and also going down every year. So for it to somehow be dirtier and more dangerous now, despite year after year of reduced homelessness, crime, and Yakuza would be incredibly unusual.

To give some context, what she filmed was the Japanese equivalent of going to Skid Row in LA or East Hastings Street in Vancouver and saying, "Look how terrible North American cities are getting!" - and even then, she had to photoshop in extra graffiti so it would look suitably awful.

Kabukicho is basically Tokyo's red light district and it gets pretty rough and tumble (by Japan's standards, at least) when you hit the back streets. There are worse neighbourhoods in the country, but not many. Filming there, framing it as "Japan's going to shit", and tacitly implying that it's both representative of the whole country and that immigrants/foreigners are to blame is both dog-whistling and straight-up bullshit sensationalism. She's doing the same sort of alarmist "journalism" that carried Trump and his cronies to power and that they still use to energize their base when they need a hot-button issue to tap.

Chris Broad was absolutely right to call her out for this (particularly as, and he was correct when he pointed this out, it used to be a lot worse; I still don't frequent Kabukicho now, but back when I first started going into Japan, parts of it were very much "if you go there and you're not a local, don't expect to leave with your wallet still in your pocket").

Do you mind if I ask where you've lived? I feel like the only thing I saw in the news 20 years ago was enjo kosai stuff; I didn't exactly live in the inaka but still.
You absolutely could find Yakuza just chilling on the streets 20 years ago in Tokyo. In many parts of Tokyo (I saw them myself and I was just on vacation).

We went from near peak post-bubble numbers to around a quarter of that in the last twenty years:
