I was just thinking today how I'll never get to taste any of her signature desserts again. I could try to recreate them of course but it wouldn't be the same.

So I'll pass this pro-tip on to you guys because I wish someone had said it to me: if any of your parents/grandparents have some special thing that they make, get them to show you how to make it! Chances are they'll be delighted you are taking an interest, and in the future when you're missing that person especially hard it will be a great way to remember them.
Sack to crack, going to town
Nobody in my family has been able to perfectly recreate my grandmother's brisket. The way she made it was absolutely insane but no one's even trying to replicate it properly. They skimp on the water bath or the the cookware or don't use onion soup mix.

RIP..

Ahh man I'm gonna miss my mom's. I don't want to think about the time she has left. I want to learn her signature dishes.
Less is more. Everything you want, isn't everything you need.
My mom makes an oyster dressing every Thanksgiving that I really need to learn how to make. I've never had anything like it anywhere else. My dad tried to fake it years ago and it was nowhere close. Also, yellow grits.

Thankfully my sister knows how to make both of these but I need my mom to show me. She's almost 80
