The frustrating part is having to actively remember that most people's amygdala didn't actively check out when they were like 4 years old.

It's both frustrating and annoying when you get to the age of 'oh shit, people actually remember things from more than ten seconds, let alone 20 years ago?!'

I had really traumatic things happen when I was like 4 years old. Bad things. Things I didn't even understand until I was around 13, and even then I only started remembering glimpses

A common(?) response to trauma is to just forget it. Occasionally the brain basically stops not forgetting things, effectively killing the short term memory

I've got really shoddy memory due to what I assume is my extremely heavy hard drug use for multiple years of my life, so I feel you
