You don't know what you're missing, that's why it's easy to not drink. I mean it would be easy as hell to go through your entire life without masturbating as well. But try doing it once and then never doing it again. Same deal having an awesome night of drinking.
No, you really wouldn't. You're not the same as all other people and you probably have no idea how much you might like alcohol in the right situation. It's not like it's an "instant fun" drink. But if you're already doing something you really enjoy and you add a little alcohol to the mix, there is an extremely good chance you'll end up having a better time. It's not for everyone, but it is definitely for most people.
As for Rammbro. Good on ya. As someone who loves his mind-altering substances, alcohol is pretty terrible. If you're drinking excessively and actually making bad decisions and having your health adversely affected.. it's even worse. I'm not sure I can really give you "advice", but I know that if this is really what you want to do, making the necessary changes will be easy. Just think of the reason you made this decision and the thought of going back to your old ways should disgust you.

Even if my crushing timidity would probably vanish a tad with alcohol I still abstain from drinking because I wouldn't be the same and whatever I do while under the effect of alcohol wouldn't be 100% my doing because while it's still me in flesh and bones it's not 100% the real me in personality.
And anyway it still tastes awful.

Taste is whatever, but you're still you. Unless you're blacked out drunk, you will always be you. Your brain might function differently, but it's not as if the alcohol is making decisions for you. Some people are worse at handling their liquor than others and by the control you seem to need to have over yourself, I'd have to assume that you wouldn't change much on alcohol, but I would also assume that your friends would appreciate you being more open and fun.

This annoys me too. I actually like the taste of alcohol, and when I make mixed drinks, I go 50/50 so I can actually taste what I'm drinking.
Though it is true with alcohol more than many other foods/things that higher quality stuff costs a HELL of a lot more, and the taste is a definite improvement. If I have some crappy $12 handle of vodka, sure I don't want to taste that so I can mix it away, but if I have a really nice bottle, I'm not letting people mix that with more than ice and lemon.

Yup that's pretty much it.
Being drunk is just a chemical reaction that your body is undergoing. It doesn't change who you are really, though it does give you social liberty to act out of the norm without consequence, which is why a lot of people like getting/acting drunk.
It's the same if you're sleep or hungry or some other similar biological state. You're going to be influenced mentally by your sleepiness or hunger, and you're going to act different than if you were perfectly energized. Does that mean you're not at 100%? No.

Not really. All being drunk does to me is make me feel kinda like I'm swimming. Tried pretty much every kind of alcohol, the only thing to do anything different is tequila making me want to take a ****.
Not worth the price of alcohol and the bad taste.
