FF15 was the GameFAQS GotY winner for 2016. You can chalk it up to GameFAQs being GameFAQs but it very much is an important part of the 2016 entry.
Undertale did not win Game of the Year on this website. It won the Best Game Ever contest in 2015, but failed to win GotY 2015.
Undertale did not win Game of the Year on this site. Undertale winning Best Game Ever and L Block winning a character battle were both due to external rallies. If other sites rally for this contest for some reason, the quality of the games that come out in a year doesn't really matter anymore. Any year could win for any reason. If rallies do not get involved, Game of the Year results are generally pretty solid.
This may surprise you but GameFAQs having droves of Final Fantasy fanboys is a fairly large positive for FF15 in a popularity contest. >_>
