Gonna go with a trusty personal favorite this week. Now that holidays are over too I won't be late like last topic.

Eve 6 - Enemy
whoops forgot I still needed to post a song since it's all out of wack. Here's one I've been sitting on because I was unsure but here goes. Absolutely love the vocals on this, and for all of the band's stuff. Just a super super great band, and especially with this album they really show a lot of cool influences. They kind of ended but started back up with 2 of the members and aren't quite how they used to be, but they still have 2 fantastic albums.

Also I was thinking - if we submitted votes as 1st, 2nd, 3rd (3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 1 for 3rd) we'd be less likely to end in a tie, even if not everyone voted.

This is a very pleasing track to listen to. The instrumental mix is wonderful and I can hear every individual piece clearly and crispy. Makes the drums and bass stand-out a lot too. Really enjoyed the lyrics and vocals.

It wasn't bad, the flow was catchy, but the beat got repetitive and I didn't really like the content of the lyrics.

i listened to numb and apple blossom on spotify because the YT videos didn't work for me.

Eve 6 - Enemy

thought this was a rather boring alt rock song. it wasn't terrible but it was pretty bad.

Envy on the Coast - Numb

i was expecting another shitty post-hardcore song because that's a genre this band plays according to wikipedia (as well as "active rock" - wtf is that?) but surprisingly it wasn't. it sounded more like something a bar band would play. ok, towards the end there were some earrapey screams but i'll forgive those. this isn't something i would ever put on - it's too boring for that - but it wasn't bad. harmless rock song i guess.

E.G.G. a.k.a. COSIO - EU over Progress

first of all, this must be the worst name for a band/artist (?) ever. it's even worse than when a friend of mine in high school called his band "e eleven seven." at several points this tune uses the same chord progression as attract from ridge racer revolution, which is one of my favorite VGM songs, so that was a huge positive. i'm sure there's a million other songs that use this progression and i probably shouldn't try to say something technical about music with next to no expertise, but hey, that's what it reminded me of! but yeah, overall this was an incredible jazz fusion-ish track. adored it from start to finish.

The White Stripes - Apple Blossom

oh hey, it's the siblings-but-not-really again with a song from the album with a dutch title. as i said before i like the white stripes but i'm not a fan of this - i'd rather hear them play music in the style (see what i did there?) they usually do. rock bands doing music hall just isn't a great idea - the beatles should have never recorded maxwell's silver hammer either.

Ty Segall - Feel

damn, this was great! pretty simple rock song but for some reason i really connected to it. if i had longer hair i'd headbang to this for sure. loved the first guitar solo too, it actually reminded me of some of frank zappa's shorter guitar solos from the early '70s, and coming from me that's high praise. well, zappa usually had amazing musicians to accompany his solos and these guys aren't on that level, but to a certain extent you can still make the comparison, i think. anyway, fantastic pick.

Lucy Dacus - Night Shift

i thought this was going to be a boring folk song but it wasn't. i liked the shift to rock and i quite liked the rock part, as simple as it was. but as a whole the song was kind of overlong - i think the rock portion would have been more powerful if it had been shorter. decent, though.
Geothermal terpsichorean ejectamenta
Luniz feat. Michael Marshall - I Got 5 on It

great pick, one of my favorite one hit wonder songs (well, according to wikipedia luniz had another top 20 hit song in the UK i've never heard of, but you know). i may agree with snake that the lyrics aren't good and maybe the rapping isn't amazing, but when the beat is this sick i'm not going to complain.

Kirin J. Callinan - S.A.D.

i wasn't into this. kinda reminds me of that DMX christmas song from last time in that it's SUPPOSED to be really funny but... i just wasn't laughing? someone in the youtube comments mentions gnther - good comparison, but i found ding dong song to be a lot more amusing than this. interesting that kirin j. callinan used to be in a band called mercy arms that apparently played dream pop, though. i love dream pop so perhaps i WILL like them!

Lena - Traffic Lights

this was ok i guess. don't have much to comment, i didn't love it but it was a decent little pop song.

Protostar & MakO - No Fire (feat. Rachel Hirons)

i like dubstep but it should be consumed in small doses - when i listen too long to it i get bored. i wouldn't call this pure dubstep, though, it's more like... dubstep-electropop. or maybe this does qualify as normal dubstep and i just don't know it because i know nothing about this genre. but yeah, good song.

Opeth - Windowpane

damnation is one of my favorite albums (like, ever - not just by opeth) but this isn't one of my favorite tracks on it - i feel like it's a bit too long. still a great song, though. i especially love those crosby, stills & nash-ish harmonies towards the end.

I Monster - Daydream in Blue (BBC Radio 2 Session)

eh. love me some trip hop but i don't enjoy this super cliche chord progression. the trip hop-ness of it made it above average for me, though.

Envy on the Coast - Numb
This is one of those songs I really enjoy though I can't say why. When I first started to listen I thought it was going to be kinda boring, but I just found it to be really easy to listen to. I might check out some more of them.

Eve 6 - Enemy
Wait, Eve 6 had more than one song? After listening to this, I kind of understand why they didn't get bigger than they did. Not that this is bad, it's just fairly generic. I was listening to the intro, pretty excited to see what they did with the chorus, but it just kinda kept going. I don't dislike the song, but it's just kind of...there?

Kirin J Callinan - S. A. D.
"Just another song about drugs". Yeah ok. This is interesting to listen to, but I wouldn't say I enjoy it. I'm glad you posted it, but at the same time I never need to listen to it again. I'm not sure how else I can explain it.

Luniz - I Got 5 On It (feat. Michael Marshall)
I liked this a lot more than I though I would at first, especially the chorus. I still don't really like songs that just use the same minimal beat/notes in the background the whole time (especially for songs that don't have a vocal melody), so that detracts from this one in particular. But I don't hate this being on while I'm working or something.

Lucy Dacus - Night Shift
I enjoy the vocalist, but this song is way too long. The shift (see what I did there) to a heavier feeling at the end was cool, but I was already disinterested in the song by that point. The first four minutes just ruin the rest of it.

The White Stripes - Apple Blossom
The White Stripes always do it for me. I was hooked from the first line, the minor feeling makes me happy. This is the kind of song I could just crank up the volume for and play it a few times over and over.

Lena - Traffic Lights
This is another song I was interested in right away. I had a really good time listening to this one, but I'm not sure there is anything I can point out why. Sounds like something I would hear on the radio (which I know some people might think is an insult, but I don't mean it as one).

I Monster - Daydream in Blue
Now this is how you do a minimal background music song. This guy is fun to listen to. I was curious what they were going to do after the midway point, and I liked the duet.

Opeth - Windowpane
Opeth is always very hit or miss for me, mostly due to their vocals. But surprisingly, I didn't have any issues with the vocals in this one. Instead, I just didn't like the song. I felt like this is one of those examples of a song just going on too long without anything interesting happening.

E.G.G. a.k.a. COSIO - EU over Progress
OK you actually have me interested right away. And then some of the music reminds me of Phoenix Wright a bit...then Mario Kart? And then we get some weird off beat stuff. I feel like this song had a lot of potential and then just went off the rails. I didn't hate it, but it could've been so much better.

Ty Segall - Feel
Has a nice rhythm to it. The vocals aren't my favorite, but the song overall was just fun to listen to. I wish I had more to say about it, but it was just fun.

Apple Blossom > Daydream in Blue > Numb > I Got 5 On It > Traffic Lights > Feel > EU over Progress > Enemy > Windowpane > S. A. D. > Night Shift

There are a few songs on Eve 6's Horrorscope that are a bit more weird and experimental (and even more so in their follow-up It's All In Your Head) but I've always enjoyed the message of Enemy a lot. Eve 6 just has that knack for catchy, energetic short-songs with great wordplay and they've always been one of my favorite bands.

This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.
Enemy - I like the verses more than the chorus, chorus is kind of by the numbers and probably the weakest part of the song. It's fine though.

S.A.D. - I like the hook, that's about it for the most part. Song doesn't work for me too much unfortunately, seems a bit too all over and it doesn't all work here.

I Got 5 On It - I gotta say, that's a really high quality beat for 1995. Like doesn't seem super typical for the era, which is really cool. Flow's great, hook's great, message of the song is great BETTER PAY UP FOR MY WEED

EU Over Progress - Listening to this while talking in discord about FFX just made me think about playing Final Fantasy games with this music going. Also made me think about specifically Seymour Battle music too, so props on this song.

Night Shift - really really great lyrics and subject manner, the ending getting a bit louder and building up is a nice effect.

Apple Blossom - this song has always reminded me of the beatles, the melody and the way jack kind of sounds a bit like paul mccartney. It's one of those instances where the simplest melody is the most effective.

Feel - solid ass garage rock, espeically the solo in the middle.

Traffic Lights - she sounds a lot like Ellie Goulding, particularly during the verses. It's solid, nothing super memorable but it works.

Daydream in Blue - a song that has such a strong hook, you can repeat it over and over for practically the entire song and it still works. Add a few flourishes and effects and then bam, you have a cool ass song.

Windowpane - good background music, doesn't really get me going but it's just solid mellow prog rock

No Fire - solid dubstep, a genre I'm actually quite in favor of when done well despite people's misgivings about it. Solid vocals for it, solid drops, nothing too obnoxious. I fucks with it.
