Nice I'm pretty happy about that win, I wasn't sure what La Dispute song to go with but I figured people would like that one a lot.

Say Anything - Overbiter

The amount of times I've replayed this over the past week is obscene.
I usually go through a couple of songs that might work and decide which I'm feeling the most, but because of my aforementioned sickness and what not I'm just blah right now so here's the first that came to my mind that i listened to recently

Night Verses - Phoenix: I.Rising II.Falling
Lord have mercy on my soul, I've had a good run but I can't run anymore. Just put me down

I've been waiting to nominate this song for like 2 weeks

i listened to this on spotify because the YT video didn't work for me. great song. i really liked the melodies, particularly in the verses. if they're an emo band maybe the genre isn't so bad after all! (i associate this style more with "power pop" or whatever than "emo" but hey, what do i know.)

i liked some parts in this but other parts not so much. some parts kinda dragged and unsurprisingly i didn't like the ending with all the screaming. i get that that was supposed to be the super emotional climax but yeah, not my cup of tea. there was enough good stuff here to say that it was above average for me overall, though.

sorry I'm so late guys, totally forgot about this! gonna switch up the vibe a bit this week.

enjoy!
And if you don't know, now you know.
i realized earlier today what album i wanted to post a song from, in light of the weather here this week, but i hesitated over the song i wanted to pick so i just listened through the whole album to choose one i think people will like more but upon reflection this is just by far my favourite so you're getting all 15 minutes and i'm sorry

i like a lot of weird al songs (my favorite song by him is genius in france, unsurprisingly) but i've never liked his polka medlies because... well, i can't stand polka. these polkafied versions of songs aren't funny in the slightest to me. they just sound obnoxious.

Heatwave - Star of a Story

i listened to this on spotify because the YT video didn't work for me. hey, you finally did a song by a band i'm familiar with! this song has a lot going for it: i love the keyboards, the funky rhythm guitar and the vocal harmonies. however, i feel like they tried to do a bit TOO much in this. i could have done without the acoustic guitar noodling, for instance. not the best heatwave song i've ever heard, but still a good song.

BANNERS - Empires On Fire

didn't like this song. extremely generic and really boring alt rock. i liked that it had piano in it but that wasn't enough to save the song.

i hadn't listened to simple plan since 2004 or so but that doesn't mean i hate them. i liked this song, in fact. it's also rather generic, but because of the power pop aesthetic i liked it a lot better than empires on fire. pretty decent.

didn't like this song. some parts were extremely boring and the parts with non-clean vocals sounded ridiculous to me. i did like some other parts but the bad outweighed the good for me. it's too bad, because i do feel like there's a song hidden in here i would like.

well, from a melodic standpoint this was rather dull but i did like how it gradually built up and became more intense. they way they did that was kind of post-rock-ish. decent song.

Right away, I adore the bass and the tappy percussion. The riff at 50 seconds is incredible. Honestly this song never stops being amazing with its instrumentation. The vocals are a little average but they carry the song along well.

Vocals are top-notch. The melody is touching and I love the synth touches that feel like stars sparkling bright through pitch-darkness. Cool vid too btw.

Wasn't totally feeling the instrumentation, even as it opened up and expanded its sound, but the vocals remained enjoyable throughout.

This song is pure dumb fun! I like the message of the song and the backing vocals feel like they're transposed from a more comedic band.

God damn this is epic. Hausswolff absolutely commands this song with her powerful vocals, I love her witch-like laughter at around 4 minutes. Anxiety-inducing organ and the heavy atmospheric drums and guitar work are absolutely soul-destroying. This is like horror condensed into song.

Absolute essential for the genre. The solo is absolutely one of the best and most moving I've ever heard. I love the call and response between the growled vocals and chants. Like The Mysterious Vanishing of Electra this is more than a song, it's an experience culled from cinematic influence, an atmospheric journey in every sense.
