How do you support that kind of dream for your kid lol. We don't even have a webcam lol.
Don't support that kind of dream.
"Reading would be your friend." ~Dave Meltzer
If she cares enough, she'll find a way to do it without parental support, just like all the original youtube celebrities.
Congrats to BKSheikah , who knows more about years than anyone else.
Ask her what she wants to do on youtube to start with?
Lolo
Well you could buy a webcam. Though she'll have to wait until she's 13, since Youtube (like Gamefaqs) requires you to be 13 years old to have an account.
Growing up, I wish some teacher told me "You probably won't ever need this, but if you don't learn it, you might miss out on something really cool."
this is actually a fairly common "dream" for little girls from what I've seen

one of my best friends has two daughters who are around the same age as yours and they're both obsessed with finding some way to become famous on YouTube as well

She wants to do a Roblox gaming channel lol.
If you didn't slap her as soon as she said that, you are a bad parent.

Its really not a lot different psychologically than wanting to be an actress or a pro athlete like she might see on TV

Why is a webcam necessary, again?

Wouldn't screen capture and a microphone be enough?
Lolo
Well at least she doesn't want to get a boob job which is mandatory to be a woman in wrestling.
One of my workers 10 year old daughters also wants to do this

And I heard a young kid in over watch say thars what he wants to do

I guess its a thing

Yeah, I don't think it's that different than dreaming of becoming a TV or movie star.

Off-topic question: I'm pretty sure most popular YouTubers target a (much) younger demographic. Any guesses as to who might be the most popular YouTuber with average viewers in their 30s or older?
One of the DBS reactors I follow does reactions with her 10 year-old sister. They posted their latest reaction either yesterday or today, and her eleventh birthday was either today or will be tomorrow.

Eli Sisters is the account. Maybe check one or two of their vids so you could maybe see what it could be like?

Probably a famous musician like Katy Perry or someone like that

Hell if I know. I barely even use the video chat function on my phone let alone know anything about streaming online.
I keep my 10 year old off of youtube out of fear of what she'll find. call me overly conservative, I guess

Oh FFS, I'll buy you a cheap webcam if you are concerned about the $10 cost.

On the dream bit...I mean, I remember telling my parents that I'd grow up to make videogames. They didn't believe this could be a real career, and then I grew up and have been working in games for 13 years. So...yeah, just encourage her.

Start talking about boring behind the scenes details, like how streamers on twitch do better when they stream consistently at the same time each day, how it helps to network with other streamers and send each other videos, how these services offer metrics after the stream is over. I don't exactly know youtubers, but I do know someone who got somewhat big on twitch, and then went from there to working at Blizzard.

Ask her what type of problems she wants to solve in the world when she grows up, and if being a youtube celebrity can accomplish that imo

Limit her to 20 minutes of youtube per day, and when she gets upset, tell her to get her ass outside and play in the yard. Assuming there is a yard.

I'm kinda joking but not really.
Lotta old farts set in their ways here.

Be careful, she might soon discover rock and roll music.

Am I an old fart who is set in my ways if I was born in the 90s and grew up with no limits on gaming or Internet?

I had fun yeah, but wouldn't want my kids (of which I have none) to do the same.

Oh, also, if she does start uploading youtube videos at a young age, disable comments on the video.

(I follow a lot of youtube musicians, and yeah, any girls under the age of like 15, always, always comments seem to be disabled on the video; there's probably a good reason for that).

I think this is great advice.

One way to know if someone is serious about their dream job is if they want to deal with the less exciting parts of it as well.

I'm of the opinion that there aren't many good reasons to want fame. Greatness that leads to fame, sure. But not fame itself.

It's still totally normal and someone most young people want. I know I did. But I think it comes from insecurity and I wouldn't encourage it, personally.

If she has some great idea that she wants to share with everyone, go for it.
