If I left something significant off here, let me know. Curious to see what other people here use.

I dunno we just look at our checking account/credit card balances and decide if we can afford something?

My Dad did try to get me into using one of these and I did try Quicken for like 6 months

but not for me maybe if I made more money it would be useful
I use the notes on my phone and do it in my head

It's fairly easy since I don't have a huge amount of different expenditures

I used a spreadsheet and tracked every penny for like three months

realized my income was significantly greater than my spending

Quit bothering to formally track anything

I have like a notepad file that I keep track of my debts/any regular payment I make every month just for my own information, but I don't really keep track of non regular payments.
Mint is really useful but my bank doesn't sync with it anymore. I usually put away an extra 100-300 bucks a month when I use it.

Pen and paper. Really though what fluctuates? Mortgage, car payment, utilities and groceries are generally the same every month so it's not worth keeping track of

Can I ask your age and home country?
I just have a small budget each month which I use to spend on things for fun. I don't bother with including bills or extraordinary expenses in my budget since I make (a little bit) more than I spend.
Congrats to Advokaiser on pwning me in CBX!

Fluctuations beyond what you can afford like nothing is ever the exact same eas my point. Why bother keeping s tab on groceries if apples go up 2 cents then ground beef is on sale your bills always change a bit you need a 10% window all the time beyond money out away in savings.
I'm generally conservative with money and once I get close to my paycheck every 2 weeks is where I REALLY just slow down even more.

Depends on how rigidly you want to define budgeting. I don't track expenses in an ultra precise fashion, but I have a very low income situation and I get by simply by not spending money I don't have.

Pen and paper - I use a light colored construction paper (different color for each month) and a sharpie. For me it helps add emphasis to my good and bad decisions when I have to write it out.

I also write the "6 month plan" and the "1 month plan" on each month, so I can see where I'm at.

I found that the "I don't budget but I live comfortably" years involved a lot of waste. That lead to bad habits. Once I started better tracking, I found that I could spend considerably less on dining out and Christmas presents and my life wasn't any worse or less comfortable. Being ahead of schedule became the new "being on schedule". It was a bit stressful at first.

My girlfriend uses excel. She has more natural great habits in terms of finances than I do.

I usually just make sure to save a specific part of my monthly salary as soon as I receive it. I'm not a huge spender so it's never really a problem.

I've got a Minit account, but the site keeps having problems accessing my accounts so I just don't bother with it. My usual approach is to use a pen and paper, and sometimes bring in Excel if I need to do longer-term planning.
My wife.

Hey look at this. We should get one/go here/do this....

No.
I use Mint and it's extremely helpful. I used to do it in excel but it was too much work. Mint gives me all the data in very informative graphs for almost zero effort.

It does a good jobstarkly telling me how I'm eating out too much or I'm buying too many video games or I'm reloading my starbucks card too often or I've signed up for too many monthly subscriptions.

It's like MyFitnessPal with calories- when you have to actually look ati t and acknowledge the choices you make it helps you make better choices. I don't want to look at my mint graphs at the end of the month and be disappointed in myself.
