Finished up the episodes earlier today, quality as always. I especially loved the first and last episodes, and the last episode in particular with only focusing on the side characters that Bojack has fucked with over the years and how they're dealing/fallout from what he's done

Also in the third episode with the whole Disney callout and "directed by Brad Bird"

And that quick David O. Russell jab got me

yes, i get it... he is shitty... and his shittiness comes back to bite him. so which part of the show am i supposed to enjoy?
You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

The unique animation, the innovative narrative structure, the clever writing, the brilliant integration of music.

Hey if you dont like it you dont like it but its one of the most well crafted animated shows of all time. It had solid humor, a really strong plot and consistent evolving deep characters. What your describing sounds more like Seinfeld, weve had shows with horrible people as the main character for twenty years. BoJack is much deeper than that with a sad melancholy that sticks with you. Its haunting deep dark show where colorful wacky things happen. Its a show that does sad and funny both extremely well.
Finished it just now.

I loooove a good cliffhanger especially with implications for Bojack's relationship with Hollyhock .
I'll get back up for good this time and I ain't comin' down...
Horrible sense of impending doom in the that last episode. Perfect, and terrible
Not to be confused with XIII_Stones.

the parts where you laugh because you have a functioning sense of humour

and also the part where you relate to every decision and thought bojack has
Advokaiser makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.

mostly agree w this. i do think it has some funny jokes in it though, and the occasional episode feels relatable to me. you can tell it's a show with heart, though that heart is rarely relevant to me.

btw to be clear i've seen every episode. mainly a testament to the netflix model.
yet all sailors of all sorts are more or less capricious and unreliable - they live in the varying outer weather, and they inhale its fickleness
I totally forgot about this! I'm definitely gonna try to binge when I get home from work today.
It's not so impossible!
i'll admit, i've only seen the first season and scattered episodes.

the show is situated in an interesting place, where the characters are crappy but not so crappy as to be unbelievable. a lot of shows go over the top with how horrible people behave, and that gives us enough distance to feel safely not like them- this show puts them somewhere in the middle

Hey if you dont like it you dont like it

Understood! I appreciate the rest of your explanation as well

and also the part where you relate to every decision and thought bojack has

I'll be completely honest, I don't think the average person relates to bojack. i'm crappy sometimes, but not in most of the ways that the main characters are. I know exactly one person in real life that identifies with bojack a lot, and he is the meanest person i know.

I do agree that the show is extremely well executed! It makes me feel uncomfortable with believable characters and strong writing. I think I've always been critically weak when it comes to awkward scenario humor (i.e. meet the parents, the one episode in the office, etc)

It's a good show, and i might be in the mood for it later. Kind of like how the first time I tried to play morrowind, or mass effect, or a few other games, it didn't click, but later on they became some of my favorite experiences
You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.
Yeah theres a whole plot that was the main focus last season where they outline the difference between acknowledging that people can be terrible versus just settling with it and how relating to BoJack can make you just be okay with being a **** person. And they pretty much say that the second one is definitely wrong. That you shouldnt be comfortable saying thats just who I am and never trying to be better, just giving up and accepting how **** of a person you are. Sure BoJack can be right sometimes, sure BoJack had an unimaginably horrible childhood (my god) but at the end of the day the last episode just shown shows us that other characters will never know the deeper motivations behind what BoJack or other characters have done- just the actions theyve done and laid out they seem really really bad. Its making a point that even though your life could be horrible, you could have every reason to lash out, its still your actions and your responsibility.

Rick and Morty could be compared to BoJack because they are both great shows with a bastard for a main character. But while Rick is shown to be problematic and troubled and totally screwed up just like BoJack hes still kinda cool and theres no indication hell ever change. BoJack meanwhile is the same but he listens to people, thinks about his actions, regrets things and has nice solid character development.
episode 2 is really stressing me out

I know it's not a finale, but that was a weird episode to leave us on nonetheless.

fascinating that bojack didn't appear in the final episode

Maybe the very final episode will be a huge funeral for Bojack with everyone giving their own take on how much of a terrible person he was and he wont be in it at all.
Hopefully it's a dig at Netflix for prematurely cancelling it for literally no reason
